The Great Michigan Race Preview

September 26, 2010

altThe Great Michigan Race, debuting Sunday, October 17, 2010, promises to be a unique and fun experience while serving as a signature fundraiser for Special Olympics Michigan!

200 teams of 4 will test their GRIT & WIT (as well as their teamwork and sense of humor) as they follow clues through a 5K route to 10 challenge sites in and around the Rochester area.  Visit www.GreatMichiganRace.com for more information and register online.

You can still support a great cause while catching the Great Michigan Race action by visiting the metroparent.com Family Fun and Fan Park to watch the racers on the video board (seating provided); take part in the 10-site Children's Challenge; and enjoy the fun fall festivities.  The park will be located on the corner of Third and Water streets in downtown Rochester from 10 am to 4 pm on race day.  Then, join the celebration at the Royal Park Hotel, where division finalists will complete a final challenge, and prizes, food and entertainment will take place.

Supported by more than 20,000 volunteers, SOMI annually provides training and competitions to over 17,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities of all ages through 23 different Olympic type sports.  SOMI relies solely on funding from donors and special events.  "SOMI is honored and excited to be the sole benefactor of the inaugural Great Michigan Race.  The event showcases Michiganders' spirit and tenacity just as our athletes exhibit.  We focus on events that bring out the best in our competitors-all in the spirit of fun and accomplishment," explained Lois Arnold, SOMI President and CEO.
The Great Michigan Race is being organized by In2itive Marketing & Events, a Michigan-based firm.  "This exciting new race offers something for everyone while serving as an alternative to traditional fundraising to support a great cause like Special Olympics Michigan.  We hope everyone will come out for a fun-filled day," offered Jill Fraeyman, co-founder.
