Burgrz - Rochester Hills Review

July 29, 2010

altHere's a recipe for success... Make delicious gourmet hamburgers, price them reasonably, build your restaurant in an attractive manner and drop it right across the street from a beautiful college campus in the most prosperous county in Michigan.

That's what Burgrz restaurant did and I dropped by with my son to sample their menu and review Burgerz after their recent grand opening in Rochester Hills.

There are 8 burger options at Burgerz (Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger, BBQ Burger, Bleu Cheese Burger, Mushroom Swiss, and California Burger). If 100% Angus Beef on a toasted Kaiser roll isn't your style, you can order a Turkey, Boca, Veggie or Chicken Burger. Burgrz also offers Waffle Fries, Chili Cheese Fries, 4 types of salads (Chicken Caesar, Crispy Chicken, Cobb, and meatless), Hot Dogs and Shakes. The Kids Menu features 4 options. Hamburger & Fries, Cheeseburger & Fries, Hot Dog & Fries or Chicken Tenders & Fries and are all priced at $3.99.

I went with the basics. Hamburger & Fries. My son opted for the Kids Menu Cheeseburger & Fries. There are over 20 Burgerz toppings to choose from for the hamburgers and you also have a choice add-ons like egg, avocado, bacon, sauteed mushrooms or chili for an additional price. Cheeseburger afficionados can choose from 4 different cheeses: American, Cheddar, Swiss or Bleu.

After my Burgrz order was placed, my son and I chose our soft drinks and seated ourselves. Burgerz has a very contemporary design with slick looking black and white photography adorning the walls. Our order was ready within 5 minutes and the staff brought our food right to our table. I found the Burgrz staff to be very friendly. They brought napkins and utensils with the order and seemed very intent on making sure every diner was happy. They even offer to-go cups and containers to take home your leftovers.

My Burgerz burger was fantastic. If you've never had green olives and zip sauce on a hamburger, you haven't lived. The portions (even my son's kids cheeseburger) were very impressive for the price. Ah yes, the price. The burgers all range from $4.49 to $5.79. The meal is quite a value! The fries are waffle cut and delicious.

The Burgrz experience is very similar to Five Guys Burgers & Fries in terms of price, simplicity and taste. I do however feel that Burgrz does everything a little better than 5 Guys for about the same price.

The best burgers - the friendliest staff and a sparkling environment. What more does anyone want.
