Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar is located inside the Rochester Chop House and overlooks Main Street in downtown Rochester. It is an Oyster Bar that serves fresh seafood. I had never been there before even though I had always wanted to try it out. Here is my review:
Maybe it's because it's in the Chop House which is a favorite restaurant for me and my husband so we automatically get steered in that direction. Well, last night I was out on my own so I headed over to Kabin Kruser's for their sampling night of new menu items.
Kabin Kruser's held an event for their customers to trial some potentially new menu items. They mixed in some of their traditional entrees as well. The new selections will be featured on fliers at the restaurant and if they do well, they might end up on the menu.
Here's what I tried and a menu item review:
Seafood Gazpacho: Gazpacho is on the Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar menu, so Seafood Gazpacho would be a new twist on their current dish, and it is very fresh and zesty. I've never had gazpacho before and this is surprisingly good. It's a chilled vegetable soup with shrimp, scallops, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, cucumber, sour cream, and croutons. The smooth broth mixes nicely with the refreshing crisp texture of the cucumber.
Bang Bang Shrimp: This would be a completely new Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar item. It is a Panko breaded, lightly spiced shrimp, fried and tossed in a Lobster cream sauce with lime. This was good, but I could taste the lime almost more than I could taste the lobster sauce.
Charley's Chowder: Already on the Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar menu, this is like a tomato soup with a hint of seafood. It's not too fishy, which is great since fish can sometimes be overpowering. It also has a great mix of vegetables - carrots, celery, onions and herbs.
California Fish Taco: Already on the Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar menu, this taco is made of fried grouper topped with slaw, tomato salsa and cheese in a tortilla. I Loved the slaw on this and I typically am not a fan of slaw but this was the pefect combination.
Kruser Fish Taco: Also on the Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar menu, this taco is made with a Caribbean broiled grouper and is a bit more spicy since the fish is blackened. The slaw seemed lighter with less dressing. It's topped with guacamole, sour cream, the slaw and a tomato salsa. Tasty.
