The Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education - Rochester Hills
Location: 2200 North Squirrel Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48309
The Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education is Oakland University’s on-campus laboratory school for children 18 months through 5 years of age.
The Lowry Center for Early Childhood Education strives to be an exemplary educational program for young children where Lowry staff, Oakland University faculty, staff, and students collaborate with children and families on a regular basis in order to achieve excellence in the field of Early Childhood Education. Our classroom environments and lesson plans are based on key developmental areas including: literacy, social and emotional learning, dramatic play, creative and representational art, small and large motor development, and logic, math, and science.
Lowry’s regular school year begins in early September and ends mid-June. Three 2-week Summer Camp sessions are also offered. Families of OU faculty, staff and students, as well as the neighboring community members have many scheduling options available to them including full-day and half-day options for Monday/Wednesday/Friday; Tuesday/Thursday; or Monday thru Friday in our toddler, preschool, and pre-kindergarten classrooms. Lowry Center is part of Oakland University's School of Education and Human Services. The center is licensed by the state of Michigan and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
As a laboratory school, Lowry also provides a setting where OU students from many programs across campus may observe classroom activities to learn about child learning and development and teaching strategies, and where students can complete student teaching and internship requirements. Lowry also serves as a site for OU student and faculty research that enriches and expands knowledge in early childhood and related fields of study.
