Oakland County Parks and Recreation invites golfers to Golf Fore Our Troops in two-person golf scrambles on Sept. 11 at Lyon Oaks or Red Oaks golf course. “This is an opportunity to show appreciation for our troops overseas,” Recreation Program Supervisor Laurie Stasiak said. “Golfers can honor troops on Sep. 11 by donating essential items.” Donations of wrapped, non-perishable food, snacks, toiletries, games, cards and letters will be collected at each golf scramble and sent to the troops. City Of Auburn Hills Presents 14th Annual Parade Of Stars Bluegrass Festival (12:00 PM - 7:30 PM)
Southeast Michigan’s Largest Free Bluegrass Festival Promises One Pickin’ Good Jamboree The City of Auburn Hills is giving music lovers a toe-tappin’ reason to celebrate the acoustic melodies and improvised sounds of Bluegrass. Back by popular demand, the City is hosting its 14th Annual Parade of Stars Bluegrass Festival, an all-day concert showcasing four popular, nationally acclaimed bluegrass bands, on Saturday, September 11. The event begins at 12:00 noon and runs through 7:30 pm in the Civic Center Park, near the Auburn Hills Community Center at 1827 N. Squirrel Road. “This extraordinary event brings in top Bluegrass names from throughout the country and draws more than 2000 attendees,” Brian Marzolf, Parks & Rec Director, explains. “The authentic nature of the music and pure artistry featured at the fest will not only appeal to long-time fans of Bluegrass; newcomers will also discover what this musical genre has to offer,” he says, adding that the event is the largest free Bluegrass Festival in Southeast Michigan. The Bluegrass Festival will highlight Americana songs from returning host band, The Special Consensus, and feature sets from Darren Beachley & Legends of the Potomac; Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike; and teen trio from Milford, Michigan, The Cats & the Fiddler. David Blakney of radio station CJAM in Windsor, Ontario, is the returning emcee of the event and local Auburn Hills’ musician and songwriter Natalie Myziuk will open the festival by singing the National Anthem and Oh Canada. Art In The Park Presented By Common Ground - Birmingham (All Day)
The 36th Art in the Park will be held Sept.25 - 26, 2010 in Downtown Birmingham. The fair will feature original juried art by more than 190 artists from across the country in 18 media: basketry, ceramics, drawing, general fibers, wearable fibers, blown glass, flat glass, handmade paper, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood. Walk Like MADD - Troy (9:30 AM)
Location: Troy Civic Center Walk like MADD is a 5K (3.1 miles) non-competitive walk for anyone committed to keeping our communities safe and eliminating drunk driving! It is MADD Southeast Michigan's largest fund-raising and awareness event and has no registration fee. Walkers are asked to fundraise with all monies raised used to help provide MADD free victim services, programs and education focused on MADD's mission to eliminate drunk driving, help the victims and families, and prevent underage drinking. Everyone is welcome to come as an individual walker or form a team of two or more people! Invite family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and more to join us to eliminate drunk driving, save lives and prevent injuries! The ceremonies begin at 9 AM and the walk starts at 9:30 AM sharp. Join us for fun activities, food and more! The walk festival area is at the corner of Livernois and Town Center Drive at the Troy Civic Center complex. Fall For Novi Family Festival (10:00 AM - 2:00 PM)
Explore the City of Novi in one location! Gather valuable information about our city, its services, business resources, and more. Back for 2010 is Green Street where community members can learn eco-conscious tips while talking to experts and taking part in fun activities. This annual event will allow also you to tour the Police Department, view Fire Department demonstrations, and trade your favorite flowers at the semi-annual Perennial Exchange. Children of all ages will enjoy face panting, crafts, games, and an inflatable bouncer. Please note: Household hazardous waste will be collected by Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County (RRRASOC) on Saturday, October 9. Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo, the nation’s largest off-site pet adoption event, will be held on September 25 and 26, 2010, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Detroit Zoo hosts this semiannual event in partnership with the Michigan Humane Society. Nearly 1,000 animals, including dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, were adopted through this event in 2008. Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo is free to the public and will take place in the small parking lot beneath the Zoo’s landmark water tower. Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo celebrates the many joys and benefits that pets bring to our lives and this event is the perfect opportunity to add a new member to your family! Waterford Kettering High School Performing Arts Center Fox 2's Jay Towers will be the evening's Master of Ceremonies. 1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded to two different age categories - 15 and under, and 16 and older. The Grand Prize winner will get $1000. The contest is presented by The Waterford Coalition for Youth.

Art In The Park Presented By Common Ground - Birmingham (All Day)
The 36th Art in the Park will be held Sept.25 - 26, 2010 in Downtown Birmingham. The fair will feature original juried art by more than 190 artists from across the country in 18 media: basketry, ceramics, drawing, general fibers, wearable fibers, blown glass, flat glass, handmade paper, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood.
