My wife teaches children with moderate to severe autism here in Orange County, California. I'm a fan of Oakland County Moms so thought I'd write back. There are 26 different forms of autism. I've seem the best thing done by parents who speak daily about their son or daughter with their teacher. They are required to write regular assessments of their students. And don't settle for answers that you are not comfortable with! My wife had one student, the sister of a boy in my son's Boy Scout Troop. One day she walked in while I was there so I said hi. My wife thought this girl was non-verbal. I knew that she was not and that she recognized me from Boy Scouts. Vicki waved and said hi back! Even my wife learned something that day. - Martin Calle
