I always feel a pang of guilt when my kids watch too much TV. I try to limit it, but it is a great wind down tool for when they get home from school, and for before bed.
Some of that guilt is diminished if they are watching something that is somewhat educational while it is entertaining, e.g. Wheel of Fortune, which teaches spelling and reading...plus, I enjoy watching it with them!
Their latest love is for Kenny the Shark on the Discovery Kids channel. It's a really cute cartoon that not only has the usual life lesson, but it also has an educational side. I've seen episodes with facts about sharks and other animals. I also saw an episode today that used wildlife's defense tactics as a lead-in for a discussion on defending against bullies.
There's some added humor that makes it interesting even for the older kids. My son is 7 and loves it.
What do you think about Kenny? Do your kids have a favorite show that is educational?
