Rochester, Michigan Ice Skating
Bear Creek Nature Park
740 West Snell
Rochester, Michigan 48306
Bear Creek Nature Park features an ice skating pond deep inside the park. I highly recommend the trail map to find it as the path system can be confusing for first-time visitors. The pond is also quite a walk from the parking lot so it may not be ideal to use as an ice-skating location. Other winter recommendations for Bear Creek Nature Park include cross-country skiing and sledding. Click here for a full review and photo gallery of Bear Creek Nature Park.
Rochester Hills, Michigan Sledding
Borden Park
John R. Rd. between Hamlin and Auburn roads, in Rochester Hills.
The hills at Borden Park are great for sledding for smaller kids because the hills aren't too steep. The entire park is surrounded by hills to keep it secluded from the surrounding main roads. There's lot of sledding ground to be had as the slopes never seem too crowded.
Click here for video of the sledding at Borden Park.

Platform Tennis at Waterford Oaks County Park
1702 Scott Lake Road
Waterford, MI 48328
248-858-0906
The aluminum flooring for platform tennis is raised with heating underneath. And, all around the outer bottom edge of the platform, the boards can be raised to shovel snow off to the ground outside. Players typically dress in layers and play Platform Tennis in temps as low as 10 below. Platform Tennis, because of the court size, reminds me of a combination of tennis and outdoor racquetball. Click here for more info on Platform Tennis in Oakland County.
