March 2, Tuesday at 10 am: Knitting Circle: Knitting Circle.  No registration is required.  It’s time for revival of the time honored “sewing circles.”  Join us monthly to enjoy quilting and knitting with others who love these crafts.
 
March 2, Tuesday at 2 pm: Tuesdays at the Movies: “How to Murder Your Wife” (Not Rated).  No registration is required; join us for a movie on the first Tuesday of every month.  Popcorn is provided courtesy of the Friends of BTPL. Held in the library Lower Level.

March 3, Wednesday at 7 pm: Secrets of the Lost Symbol.  Registration is required.  Art historian Deborah Kawsky will take you along with Dan Brown’s famous symbologist hero, Robert Langdon, as he deciphers secret Masonic symbolism in the art and architecture of Washington, D.C.
 
March 4, Thursday at 9 am: Adaptive Umbrella: Servicing Kids with Different Needs.   Registration information is available in Youth Services.  Wondering what to offer special needs kids at school or at home?  Not sure how to interact with this growing population?  Answers to these questions and more will be given by experts in the field at this daylong workshop, including featured speaker Dr. Mark Bowers from the Ann Arbor Center for Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics.
 
March 8, Monday at 6:30 pm: Books & Bites: Registration required.  “26 Fairmount Avenue” by Tomie De Paola.  Chapter books to “chew over” and talk about together.  Join our book discussion group for grades 2 and 3 with a favorite adult.
 
March 8, Monday at 7 pm: Downloadable Audiobooks? Free at BTPL! Registration begins Monday, February 22.  Learn how to get full-length audiobooks on your home PC with a high speed Internet connection.  Choose from hundreds of books to transfer to your MP3 player (only certain titles will work with an iPod).  Participants should be comfortable using their computer before attending this class. 
 
March 9, Tuesday from 1-3 pm: Memoir Writers’ Group.  Registration is required beginning February 15, but open to anyone.  Share stories about your life and learn creative life writing from others.  Group meets second and fourth Tuesday of each month. 
 
March 9, Tuesday at 7 pm: The Trail of Evidence.  Registration required beginning February 15 and open to everyone.  Allan Ruprecht, Evidence Technician for the Bloomfield Township Police Department, will explain the day-to-day realities of finding and evaluating evidence at crime scenes.
 
March 10, Wednesday at Noon:  Booked for Lunch.  Bring your bag lunch and join library staff as they talk about popular books.  Hear about the books local groups are reading, titles you’ve missed and undiscovered gems.  Open to everyone and held at the Bloomfield Township Senior Center.
 
March 10, Wednesday at 7 pm: Men’s Book Club. Registration required. Copies of “America’s Secret War” by George Friedman are available at the Adult Services desk.
 
March 10, Wednesday at 7 pm: Writers’ Rendezvous. No registration is necessary; just come to any meeting.  Come be a part of this ongoing writers’ group and share the creative process with others.  Details on the group are available at the library and on our website at www.btpl.org.
 
March 11, Thursday at 4:30 pm: Lego Club: Bridges.  For ages 6 and up. Young architects and engineers are invited to join us once a month for some Lego building fun! We will read a story and then build Lego creations inspired by the story.

March 13, Saturday from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm: Friends of the Library Super Second Saturday Sale! (First hour for Friends’ members only). Held in the Friends’ new location in the Lower Level.
 
March 13, Saturday at 11 am: Saturdays are Grand - Grandma, Grandpa, Colors and Me.  Grandparents are invited to drop in and spend a special morning with their grandchildren, ages 3 to 6, at this award-winning program filled with stories, projects and more!
 
March 13, Saturday from 2-4 pm: Introduction to Microsoft Excel.  Registration required.  Learn how to use this spreadsheet program to help organize your life.  Basic Windows XP skills are required.
 
March 15, Monday from 4:30-6 pm: Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Get involved at the Library! Help plan programs for teens and select materials for the Teen Collection.  Earn Community service credit and make a difference in your community.  Applications are available at the Adult Services Desk.
 
March 15, Monday at 6:30 pm: Teen Book Discussion.  Discussions will be led by BTPL Teen Advisory Board members. Register and pick up a copy of the month’s selection at the Adult Services Desk one month prior to the scheduled club date.
 
March 16, Tuesday at 10 am: Tuesday Book Club.  Registration required. Copies of “The Elegance of the Hedgehog” by Muriel Barbery are available at the Adult Services desk.
 
March 16, Tuesday at 4:30 pm: Little Foodies–Hi-Ho Dairy-O Fun.  Registration required.  We’re cooking up stories one afternoon a month.  Little chefs, ages 4-7, along with a favorite adult, are invited to join us for stories and fun recipes!
 
March 16, Tuesday from 6:30-8 pm: The Innocence Project.  Registration is required and open to everyone.  Professor Marla Mitchell, co-director of the Cooley Innocence Project in Lansing, will speak about The Innocence Project and the causes of wrongful conviction.
 
March 16, Tuesday at 7 pm: BTPL Board of Trustees meeting.  All are welcome to attend.  This meeting will be held in the Board Room on the main floor of the library.
 
March 17, Wednesday at 1 or 4 pm: Mystery Book Club. Registration required. Copies of “Whitewash” by Alex Kava are available at the Adult Services desk.
 
March 17, Wednesday at 1:30 pm: Sit and Stitch-Needlework and Quilting. No registration is required.  It’s time for revival of the time honored “sewing circles.”  Join us monthly to enjoy quilting and knitting with others who love these crafts.
 
March 18, Thursday at 7 pm: Books & Bagels. Registration required. “The Sisters Grimm: The Fairy-Tale Detectives” by Michael Buckley. Readers in grades 4 to 6 love to talk about books and nibble on snacks--come discover the fun.
 
March 18, Thursday at 7 pm: Captivating Plant Combinations with Julie Hofley.  Registration is required beginning February 15 and open to everyone. Escape winter’s cabin fever with these head-turning combinations of all plant types, both in planters and garden beds.  Learn how to put color, texture and form together to make a captivating combination in your garden. Local garden expert and nationally published writer Julia Hofley brings her years of experience to BTPL.
 
March 19, Friday at 10 am: Random Readers. No registration is required.  Random Readers is a drop-in book program open to everyone. “Presumed Innocent” by Scott Turow.  The books selected are from the Library’s regular collection and the staff will assist you in locating additional copies of each title.  A complete list of all dates and titles is available in the Adult Services Desk.
 
March 23, Tuesday at 1 pm: Memoir Writers’ Group. Registration is required. March 23, Tuesday and March 24, Wednesday at 6:30 pm: The Sixth Annual Storytelling Festival.   Talented student storytellers from the Bloomfield Hills Schools forensic teams will perform both days.  This is a joint effort of the Library’s Adult and Youth Services Departments and is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Bloomfield Township Public Library and the Bloomfield Hills Schools.
 
March 23, Tuesday at 7 pm: Find it Online.  Registration required.  Discover BTPL’s outstanding databases of full-text articles and reference sources, and learn about the Adult Services staff’s favorite websites.  To register for this class, stop by the Adult Services desk or call (248) 642-5800, ext. 171.

March 25, Thursday at 7 pm: Love the One You’re With: On Urbanism in Detroit.  Michael Hodges, Detroit News Fine Arts columnist, will present a slide show and lecture that tours the city’s aesthetic knock-outs, both high and low, encouraging us to find interest and drama in the entire cityscape.
 
March 26, Friday at 10 am: Investment Databases.  Registration begins February 22.  Bloomfield Township residents can use Valueline and Morningstar databases free of charge at home, as well as at the Library.  Learn how to use these invaluable resources.
 
March 27, Saturday at 11 am: Family Story Time. No registration required.  Drop-in story time filled with tales, music, and movement.  Families of all ages are welcome.
 
March 30, Tuesday at 6:30 pm: Book Munch Bunch.  Registration begins February 23.   “The Queen’s Feet (England)” by Sarah Ellis.  Kids in kindergarten and first grade, along with a favorite adult will adventure to faraway places through books, crafts, games, snack and music.
 
March 31, Wednesday at 6:30 pm: Small World Storytime – French. No registration required. Discover the cultural riches in your own backyard.  Bring the entire family and enjoy a story time in different languages.
 
March 31, Wednesday at 7 pm: Career Center at Tutor.com: Career Help and Live Tutoring Online.  Registration is required.  The Career Center, a real-time online service, offers one-to-one support with career specialists and expert tutors, on everything from writing a resume and preparing for a job interview, to preparing for GED and citizenship tests as well as returning to school.  The experts from the Career Center will be here to explain how best to take advantage of the service, available to residents in the library and at home.
