February and March are the months for Maple Syrup in Michigan! Several Oakland County, Michigan and other local communities offer events, classes, tutorials and celebrations of harvesting Maple Syrup.

Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Maple Magic
March 10th, 2012 10a-11:30a or 1:30p - 3p
Days with temperatures above freezing combined with chilly nights heralds the time to make some maple magic!  As the trees start to “run” sap, learn the pioneers’ syrup process, take a walk to see a tap, make a simple maple craft and sample some delicious maple products! Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Monster Maples
March 3rd, 2012
How does sap become syrup? Can you tap that tree in your backyard to make your own? Explore the history and the how-to’s of maple sugaring with us. We’ll even tap one of the “monster maples” that grow at Cranberry Lake Park. You will also get a kit to take home so you can tap your own tree! 388 West Predmore Road, Oakland MI 48363. Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Turning Sap to Syrup on the Farm
March 6th, 2012 from 1-3p
Museum staff will teach boys and girls grades K through 5 tree biology, where maple syrup comes from, how to get the sap from a tree and how to boil the sap and make syrup. Program includes story, craft, walk and snack. Cost is $12 per child. Limited enrollment. Must register by March 2nd. Register by phone at 248-726-3165.

Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Maple's Sweet Story
Saturdays and Sundays in March, 2012 from noon-3p
Stop in for a hot breakfast from 9 am to 2 pm at the Farmhouse Grille, and then head out on a guided tour to the sugar bush to see the maple sugaring process, including tapping trees and boiling down the sap. Guided tours begin at noon; the last guided tour leaves at 2:30 pm. After 4 pm, the sugar bush will remain open for self-guided visits. Registration is not required for the weekend programs but large groups should preregister. Fee: $3 for adults; $1 for seniors and children 3 to 12 years old; children under 3 are free. Weekday programs (Tuesday through Friday) during March are available by appointment to schools and organized groups. Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Sap to Syrup for Pancakes
March 10th, 2012 9a
You will learn about the tree, how it produces sap and how to turn that sap into syrup. Participants will even have the chance to taste the maple syrup after a sugaring demonstration. We will also have a pancake breakfast at the Hart Community Center (495 Broadway inside Mill Pond Park in downtown Davisburg) following the program. Program is held rain, snow or shine. Maple Syrup Event: Maple Syrup Time
March 10th and March 17th, 2012. Tours run from 9a-3p
This program starts with a short introduction to maple suryping indoors and then we'll hike the trails to see how sap is collected. Afterwords, we'll stop in the sugar shed and see the wood-stocked sap evaporator in action. The tour finishes with syrup tasting over warm mini-pancakes! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Maple Sugaring in Your Own Backyard
March 24th, 2012 1p-3p
Celebrate one of the first signs of Spring. Discover the basics of making maple syrup from you own Maple tree. We will identify and select a Maple tree, collect the sap, boil it down, and turn it into delicious syrup. The afternoon will finish with a PURE maple syrup treat and some equipment to get you started at home. Cost is $8 per person or $25 per family. Call 248-871-2509 for info.

Saturdays and Sundays in March, 2012/Weekdays for schools
Learn the history of maple sugaring and take a hike out to the sugar bush. Discover how to choose and tap a sugar maple, then go to the sugar shack to see how the collected sap is boiled down to make maple syrup. The Saturday 11 am session will give tips and techniques for tapping trees, with sap collection starter kits available for purchase at $12 each. Preregistration is required for all programs. Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Journey to the Sugar Bush

Take a journey to the sugar bush on a guided maple syrup tour. You will travel back in time and experience how maple syrup has been made over the years. You may also get a chance to tap a tree. Families can observe the entire maple sugaring process - from collecting sap to the evaporation process. Maple products are available for purchase. Michigan Maple Syrup Event: Maple Syrup Tour
Saturdays - March 3rd, 2012 through April 1st, 2012. Tours begin promptly at 1p, 2p and 3p.
Take a hayride to the Maple tree grove, tap the trees, bring sap back to evaporator and watch how maple syrup is made. Your family will not only see all of the steps in producing maple syrup but they will also take part in the process. Maple syrup and maple syrup products for purchase in our General Store in the Welcome Center. Admission is $6.00 per person, 2 and under free. How sweet it is! Learn about the entire process of making maple syrup, beginning with a trip to our "sugar bush," an area in the floodplain where hundreds of large sugar maples grow.
