To end the season, “It’s a unique event for dogs to come out to the waterpark. They get to enjoy swimming in the pool,” Recreation Specialist Matt Pardy said. “It works out really well for us because we drain the pool the next day to get it ready for winter.”
Waterford Oaks Waterpark’s Dog Only Swim is Sept. 8th from noon - 5p, and Red Oaks Waterpark’s Dog Only Swim is Sept. 9th from noon-5p. Owners should bring dogs on a six-foot leash. Once in the fenced in designated pool area, they can be taken off the leash.
Oakland Veterinary Referral Services will be on hand at both swims to help with any first aid and answer questions.
Dogs can also participate in the Best Wet Look and Best Swimsuit contests.
Each swimmer will receive a “doggy bag” with a dog swim souvenir for their owner.
Dogs may register for one time slot only depending on the dog’s weight with a limit of 75 dogs per slot. The time slots are: noon - 12:55 p.m. and 3 - 3:55 p.m. for dogs 70 lbs. and larger; 1 - 1:55 p.m. and 4 - 4:55 p.m. for dogs 31-69 lbs.; and 2 - 2:55 p.m. for dogs 30 lbs. and under.
