altEarth Day used to be about raising awareness through PSAs and commercials. Now Earth Day is a full-blown effort and celebration to raise awareness with many fun, family-related activities. Spring-time in Michigan offers many Earth Day, Healthy Living and Green Living events for the Metro Detroit area and SE Michigan. Here is a list of events and activities celebrating Earth Day 2012 and Green Living.

Ferndale, Michigan Earth Day Event(s)
Monday, April 16th through April 22nd, 2012
Ferndale Green Week 
The Annual Ferndale Green Week is a week-long celebration of green and earth-friendly events.

  • Monday, April 16th from 7p-9p - Butterfly Day - Butterfly Gardens at the Ferndale Library (222. E. 9 Mile, Ferndale)
  • Tuesday, April 17th from 7p-9p - Garden Day at Ferndale Library (222 E. 9 Mile, Ferndale). Learn to start seedlings.
  • Wednesday, April 18th from 6p-7p - Youth Day at the Ferndale Library (222 E. 9 Mile, Ferndale). Green Week family story time, ice cream and more!
  • Thursday, April 19th from 7p-9p - Local Day at the Ferndale Library (222 E. 9 Mile, Ferndale). Learn to live green locally.
  • Friday, April 20th from 7p-11p - Celebration Day at The Loving Touch (22634 Woodward, Ferndale). Free massages, healthy food, prizes and more!
  • Saturday, April 21st from 10a-2p - Bicycle Day (163 W. 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale). 25 Mile Spring bike ride plus free bicycle check-ups.
  • Sunday, April 22nd all day - Earth Day!

Wixom, Michigan Earth Day fun for kids

Earth Day Jump N Art Camp at Pump it Up
Kids can celebrate indoor playplace bouncer fun on Earth Day with Pump it Up's Jump N Art Camp. Includes 1 slice of pizza, drink, craft and bouncing fun. This camp promises to be a blast. All of the PIU Art projects will have an Earth Day theme. The camp is targeted for 4 - 12 year olds. Pre-registration is required and space is limited. Call to register your child today. Farmington Hills, Michigan Earth Day Event

Farmington Hills Earth Day Walk at Heritage Park
The Earth Walk event will recognize outstanding “green” efforts and underscore the need to reduce consumption of nonrenewable resources and develop environmentally conscious behaviors. The Earth Day schedule will include: 12:30 p.m. – Meet at the Heritage Park pavilion (Bring a picnic lunch and a reusable water bottle), 1:00 p.m. – Earth Day games, 1:30 p.m. – “Small Steps for Mother Earth” 1.5 mile walk to City Hall going north on Farmington Road to Eleven Mile (Participants will pick up litter along the route), 2:30 p.m. - Tour the LEED Gold-certified Farmington Hills City Hall, 3:00 p.m. - Closing ceremony at City Hall, 3:30 p.m. - Shuttle provided back to Heritage Park to pick up cars. All children must be accompanied by an adult. No drop offs will be allowed. Participants should dress appropriately for current weather conditions. Lake Orion / Orion Township, Michigan Earth Day Event

Growing Green Earth Day Expo
Orion Townshp Parks and Recreation is holding a free Growing Green Earth Day Expo event that highlights eco-friendly information, resources and green products. The Growing Green Earth Day Expo will be held at the Orion Center. Click here for more info.

Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan Earth Day Event
Saturday, April 21st (10a-6p) and April 22nd (noon-5p)
Live Green Fair and Home Show
The Live Green Fair and Home Show will be held at Grosse Pointe North High School (707 Vernier Road, Rosse Pointe Wood, MI 48236). The Live Green Fair will feature exhibitors and products to help you live green and reduce your carbon footprint. Bring your unwanted shoes to the Live Green Fair and we will send them to Africa. Bring your extra/obsolete televisions, computers, monitors, printers, cellular phones, and other electronics and we will recycle the recyclable parts and properly dispose of the hazardous parts safely. Live Green Fair and Home Show is just $5 admission to the public with free admission for children under 12 and any student with valid school ID. Click the Live Green Fair website for more info.

Rochester Hills, Earth Day Event

Earth Day at The Village of Rochester Hills
Spend Earth Day at the Village of Rochester Hills (The Village of Rochester Hills is located at the intersection of Adams Road and Walton Boulevard). Enjoy music and entertainment at Festival Park. And, bring your family and friends to Festival Park between the hours of 11am and 12pm and have an old fashion picnic with the community. This will actually be a part of Guinness World Records® attempt! Pack a lunch and join in. Also, bring your own bags to Whole Foods now through April 30 and you can donate your 10 cent bag refund by telling the cashier when you check out. Your dimes will be donated to Whole Planet Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides grants to microfinance institutions in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Milford, Michigan Earth Day Event

Green Team of Huron Valley Earty Day Event at Carls Family YMCA (300 Family Drive, Milford, MI 48381)

Rochester Hills, Michigan Arbor Day Event
Friday, April 27th, 2012 from 4p-5p
Arbor Day Commemorative Tree Planting at Bloomer Park (345 John R Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307)
On the last Friday in April (Arbor Day), the Forestry Division of Rochester Hills conducts an annual tree-planting ceremony with the Mayor presiding and often a local scouting or youth group in attendance. Different sites are selected each year for the Arbor Day tree; Borden Park, Spencer Park, and Avondale Parks, and City Hall grounds have all been chosen in the past.

Novi, Michigan Earth Day Event
Saturday, May 5th, 2012 10a-noon
Celebrate National Earth Day by giving back to the planet. In partnership with MSU Extension Tollgate people will be mulching, planting trees, weeding, Garlic Mustard Weed pulling, and preparing the Hungry Garden for the spring planting. Gloves and equipment will be provided. Extra shovels and rakes are appreciated. Beverages and snack will be provided. Event takes place at MSU Tollgate Farm (28115 Meadowbrook Rd).

Green Street Fair
Green Street Fair, Inc. was founded to help educate and inform people of all ages about the benefits of green, organic, and eco-friendly products and services. To promote global interest and personal well-being, the Green Street Fair blends companies, artisans, entertainers, and workshops together in a friendly and family-oriented outdoor environment. Location: Kellogg Park, Main St., Penniman Ave., Ann Arbor Trail. Dates: Friday, May 4, 2012- 12:00 noon to 7:00pm, Saturday, May 5, 2012 - 10:00am to 7:00pm, Sunday, May 6, 2012 - 10:00am to 5:00pm.

Farmington Hills Eco-Friendly Event

Farmington Hills, Michigan Eco Fest
Farmington Hills Eco Fest is located at Farmington Hills City Hall and is a free event featuring eco-friendly family fun with hands-on activities for kids and Nature Center programs.
