altThe Walk for Autism will be a family-friendly "FUN WALK" coordinated and contained within the Detroit Zoo on Saturday, October 8th, 2011. The Walk for Autism is a charity event and all proceeds go to support Homes for Autism's mission and services within our local Michigan community. Though there is no "registration fee," the recommended pledge funds raised per walker-participant is $100; however, additional pledge-raising is certainly encouraged as every dollar helps the our cause! Please understand that because of event costs, the minimum required pledge amount per person is $40; though children under five are welcome to attend with no associated fundraising requirements, when accompanied by a qualifying adult guardian.

To commemorate this year's event and recognize your support for the cause, successful fundraising efforts will be recognized on a per individual basis:

  • Individuals who successfully fundraise at least the recommended $100 of pledges and donations will receive a special white cotton t-shirt commemorating this year's event
  • Individuals who successfully fundraise at least $250(+) in pledges and donations will receive a special BLUE cotton t-shirt commemorating this year's event to recognize and differentiate their charitable efforts
  • those individuals who successfully fundraise $500(+) in pledges and donations will be able to proudly wear a special RED cotton t-shirt commemorating this year's event, allowing not only them but also their very special fundraising efforts to really stand-out!

Additionally, there will be recognition and prizes provided to the top three fundraising teams. Please understand that t-shirts are awarded on a pledges-raised-per-individual basis. In the case that fundraising efforts are organized as a team, an average pledge per team participant can be calculated for the purpose of awarding commemorative t-shirts, if requested in advance; otherwise pledges will be assigned to the individuals who raised them.

About Homes for Autism:
Homes for Autism focuses its mission on the question, “What happens to children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder when they grow-up?” While nearly all of the funds currently allocated to autism either support research or services for children, these children will eventually grow up and possibly outgrow or outlive their families’ caretaking abilities. Homes for Autism’s name instantly conveys our commitment and mission to provide housing for adults with ASD.

Homes for Autism owns homes in Southeastern Michigan in order to provide independent living to adults with autistic challenges, while working in a coordinated effort with support programs available to these adults to provide peace of mind to their families. Homes for Autism provides initial down payments and becomes financial partners with families to help with both unexpected and expected annual maintenance needs. There is no situation too difficult for Homes for Autism, making them a unique resource in the State of Michigan.
