So many of us talk about new years resolutions and often they revolve around increasing our health. This year, let’s all try something new and make it a family affair. It doesn’t matter what age your children are, we can all exercise together. Let’s all get up, get out, and let’s make exercise fun.
Here are some tips to add exercise and a healthy does of family fun:
- Find out what your children like to do and make this a focus of your family activities.
- Encourage activities that are fun such as jumping rope, going for walks, playing tag, hide-and-go-seek, and simply dancing in your living room.
- If it is cold outside play tag in the snow, pull your child around on a sled, make snow angels, or build a snow fort.
- Plan social outings that involve physical activity such as taking the family out roller-skating, bowling (don’t forget to add the bumpers for the little ones), or swimming at your nearest recreation center.
- Take a trip to the park, zoo or nature center. This can be fun and they all involve a lot walking. These locations are definitely different when you go in the winter compared to the summer. Several of these locations have special winter activities for you to enjoy while you are there.
Most importantly, enjoy your children, get some exercise and have fun as a family. The benefits for all of you are endless. Happy 2010!
