Head Lice Cure - Fairy Tales Hair Care for Children

July 28, 2011
alt

Kids love the socialization that comes with going to school. And, parents love it as well. But, sometimes we dread what else comes along with it... the sharing of bad colds, the stomach flu, and the dreaded case of head lice.

With the colds and the flu, you wait for them to pass. With the head lice, a little more proactivity is required.

Kids Crave Summer Structure

July 12, 2011

altIt's no wonder that parents often yearn for the kids to go back to school long before the Dog Days of Summer set in. I'm coming to the realization that teachers are not only educators, they are also full-time cruise directors. Kids will never admit it, but they miss the structure that the typical school day presents.

Back to School - Tooth Friendly Lunches

February 21, 2010

altParents wouldn’t send children to school with a lunchbox full of candy bars, but, given how much sugar is in popular lunch and snack-time classics, they might as well be. That’s why Delta Dental of Michigan encourages parents to think twice about the sugar content of foods their kids are eating.

Motivating Kids for Back to School

August 19, 2009

altI will never forget being a kid and reaching the late summer month of August. The start of a new school year brought on mixed feelings. Getting ready to enter into a new grade was both exciting as well as uneasy. The biggest rush was riding my bike up to the school at the end of summer to find the teacher/classroom listings that were posted on the school entrance doors. As soon as my friends and I heard that the information was posted, we would race up to the school, jump off our bikes and run around the perimeter of the school until we found our grade.

Oakland County Fun Before Back to School

August 20, 2011

altBack to School Season is upon us. When I was a kid, as soon as August 1st would roll around, my stomach would turn. Even though there was technically another month left of summertime fun, I dreaded the upcoming onset of the back to school regime.

This year, I am going to do my best to finish the summer with some jam-packed fun.  Rather than sit around and sulk, and worry that each day might fly by too fast, I am going to enjoy all the local activities that are being offered.

Here are a few family fun activities and events in Oakland County, Michigan to take advantage of before the new school year begins:

Easing the back to school jitters

August 25, 2010

As we prepare for back to school, we experience a range of emotions. Some children feel excited to start a new year, but at the same time get nervous about what's ahead. OCM gathered some middle school kids for a Channel 4 (WDIV) segment to talk about their worries with regard to starting the new school year. (see video)

Kinesthetic Learning - Kinesthetic Learners

October 02, 2010

altA Kinesthetic Learner describes my son exactly.  I always noticed how odd it was that he would be jumping around, but hearing and taking everything in at the same time.  It's easy to assume he's not paying attention and to get frustrated.  But, with further observation, it seems he has better focus when he is allowed to be moving.  Check out this article by Dr. Mommy.
