altMy mom and dad brought some serious farming skills with them when they came to the States. I grew up watching my dad work out in the garden every day, planting every vegetable imaginable. I was a little disappointed as a child that half of our backyard was occupied by a vegetable garden, but I see now how valuable it is and I appreciate the exposure I received, as well as the quality, organic vegetables I consumed.


 

Safety Town Program Teaches Child Safety

altRegistration for the Rochester Area Jaycees' “Safety Town” program, which teaches pre-kindergartners various aspects of life safety, is currently open through the Rochester Enrichment Office. In its 34th year of operation, this summer program seeks to reduce childhood injury by introducing four-, five- and six-year-old children to basic safety concepts through the use of interactive experiences. Registrations will be accepted until all available slots are filled, or until the deadline of Thursday, July 19th, 2012.


   

New Survey Reveals Surprising Health Statistics

altThe folks at Reader's Digest and Humana Health Care have sent over some interesting health statistics based on a survey of a thousand Americans they polled about healthy living.

Despite our best efforts to make healthy decisions, the survey of 1,000 Americans polled consumers on their health and well being and showed that many Americans are continuing to compromise their health in ways that can lead to chronic disease.

Wayne State University Hosts Free Skin Cancer Screenings - Rochester Hills
