Hope For Children Suffering From Eosinophilic Esophagitis

I've written a few posts of our battle with my daughter's Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). EE is a disease that is an allergic reaction in the esophagus, the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach. Eosinophilic Esophagitis is an inflammatory condition in which the wall of the esophagus becomes filled with large numbers of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell. The most common symptoms of EE in children are abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, coughing, and failure to thrive. Basically, EE equates to having severe (or numerous) food allergies.


 

Oakland County Health Division Flu Shots

altOakland County is offering low-cost flu shots beginning September 25th, 2012. Flu shots are available for only $16 at the Oakland County Health Division North Oakland Health Center and South Oakland Health Center. Hours for flu shots are Hours are 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Monday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday.

The Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) will offer body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure screenings during flu clinics at the Pontiac and Southfield office locations. The screenings, which are part of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s vision for enhancing the quality of life in Oakland County through active and healthier lifestyles, are provided at no cost and open to anyone who is interested.

Oakland County will also be holding $16 flu shots at outreach locations around Oakland County on specific dates and times. The satellite locations and dates include:

Buddy Baseball Special Needs Baseball League

Buddy Baseball is a non-competitive recreational league in Oakland County for boys and girls with special needs. Each Buddy Baseball League player will be paired with a “buddy” to assist the player as needed. Buddy Baseball Special Needs Baseball League is hosted by the Independence Township Parks and Recreation Department.

Buddy Basketball is a non-competitive, recreational sports league in Oakland County, Michigan for boys and girls ages 7-13 with special needs. Each player will be paired with a “buddy” to assist as needed. The Buddy Basketball League for special needs children is hosted by the Independence Township Parks and Recreation Department.
