I've been burning through a lot of restaurant reviews and photo galleries lately on OCM. One thing I've noticed - I must really like Mexican food.

I try to bounce around all of Oakland County to try new restaurants. Hitting all the great places to eat in Oakland County is a slow process. I usually scout for coupons, take referrals and try to visit different areas of Oakland County to seek culinary goodness.

I've been going to a lot of Metro Detroit Mexican Restaurants lately. Maybe this is strange for me because I used to be a "Mexican Village only" girl. Why bother with other places when you have a sure-lock standby for excellent Mexican food? But, once I started venturing away from Mexican Village, I liked what I tasted at the Mexican Restaurants I've tried in the rest of Oakland County and SE Michigan.

We're lucky to have so many great Mexican restaurants in Oakland County and SE Michigan. My reviews are subjective and my sincerest recommendation is that you "try 'em all".

Here are some of the Oakland County, Michigan and Metro Detroit Mexican restaurants I've tried since I started OCM. This Mexican Restaurant list is by no means complete. You can click on each listed for full reviews and some photo galleries. I know a few off hand I've heard about and I haven't had yet. At the rate I'm going, I should have 'em all covered soon enough! El Charro - Troy El Charro Mexican Restaurant is a huge eastside hit. With locations in Fraser, Macomb and St. Clair Shores, it is a widely popular establishment. Now, El Charro has a location right here in Oakland County.

El Patio - Waterford, Farmington Hills, Livonia El Patio Mexican Restaurant in Waterford, Michigan has by far the fastest service ever at a sit-down Mexican restaurant. I was surprised I could get made-to-order Mexican food for cheaper than I could get at Q-Doba and faster than I could get at McDonalds!

Rojo Mexican Bistro - Rochester, Novi This is not your midnight trip to Taco Bell. Rojo Mexican Bistro in Downtown Rochester is where you go when you want upscale Mexican cuisine. This is high-end Mexican food with an extensive menu.

Sagebrush Cantina - Lake Orion, Fenton A hotspot in downtown Lake Orion, Sagebrush Cantina is a Mexican restaurant with a fun atmosphere. The interior and exterior are festive and colorful.

Miguel's Cantina - Rochester Hills The background of experience for the Miguels Cantina owners is a great mix: the previous owners of Baja Fresh and native Mexicans who used to work at Senor Frogs in Mexico. The strategy to bring authentic Mexican cuisine to Rochester Hills was well-planned.

Mexican Village - Shelby Twp, Detroit Date friendly, carryout friendly, family friendly - Mexican Village is a longstanding Mexican restaurant with two locations (Detroit and Shelby Township).

Chipolte - Southfield, Rochester Hills, Troy, Sterling Heights, Royal Oak, Southfield, West Bloomfield It has fresh Mexican food for a reasonable price. Reminds me kind of remind me of a Mexican food version of Subway.

Salsaritas - Troy, Allen Park, Brighton, Detroit, Macomb,  Salsaritas is yet another entry in the mexican-grill style restaurant in Oakland County that is already occupied by QDoba, Baja Fresh and Chipolte Grille.

Los Locos Cantina - Rochester Hills Los Locos is one of the newest Mexican restaurants to pop up in Oakland County. When compared to the other Mexican restaurants I've reviewed, this one seems to have a bit more of a Mexican fiesta flare to it and a big bar presence.

Azteca's Mexican Restaurant - Shelby Township Azteca's Mexican Restaurant in Shelby Township, Michigan serves affordable Mexican food in relaxed atmosphere. Azteca's is a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant that seats 80 people. The food is good and the staff provides great customer service.

Sante Fe Authenic Mexican Restaurant - Auburn Hills Santa Fe is truly authentic Mexican cuisine. The restaurant TVs are tuned into Telemundo and the menus are written spanish-first. The Santa Fe menu goes far beyond tacos and burritos and virtually everything is made from scratch. Click here for a full review and photo gallery.
