The upcoming 2012 Motown Winter Blast is scheduled for February 10-12. I met up with Jon Witz, Winter Blast Event Producer, to find out more about the 2012 Motown Winter Blast schedule. The 2012 Motown Winter Blast has many of the favorite activities, along with a new contest and book collection.

Here's the interview with all the details:

Oakland County Moms: We understand you're looking for support to help bring back some of the winter activities at Winter Blast. What kinds of events are you looking to bring back?

Jon Witz: We're looking to bring back the snow slides, and along with that comes the snow machines that help the dog sledding and the snow shoeing. 

Oakland County Moms: Is there anything new and different from last year's Winter Blast event?

Jon Witz: What's new this year is the Logo Design contest. We're trying to find a local designer to design the new look of the Winter Blast. We're providing a lot of great prizes for that. We also have a new program that's called Reading is a Blast. We'll be putting a focus on collecting children's books, as well as adding reading to the children's stage at the festival.

(Anyone 18 and over is eligible to enter the Winter Blast logo design contest. The winner gets $1500 worth of prizes. And there are prizes for various runners up. Details are available at

Oakland County Moms: Do you have a music lineup yet for Winter Blast?

Jon Witz: January. We'll announce the music and food lineups in January. We can say now that we will be bringing back the free skating. It's the one weekend you can skate for free at Campus Martius. There will be three entertainment stages total, ice skating, marshmallow roasting, and a beautiful ice garden of ice sculptures. We have a lot of great activities that will be there, and we're working to add a few more in the next few weeks.

Oakland County Moms: How many people are you expecting to attend the Winter Blast?

Jon: 75,000 is what we had last year and we could return that as well.
