School's IN Diary: Week 7
When I first thought to do this summer home education program, I had all these ideas, the neighbors and friends were involved, I was researching curriculum online.... Now that we're in week 7 (which is technically Week 8 but we took the first week off), I see how much it has changed.
I found I was too busy to spend an entire Sunday night drawing up a lesson plan when it worked out just as well to pull a few things together quickly in the morning. I realized this even moreso when I saw that smaller amounts of work were sufficient. Spending so much time trying to put together a full schedule was seeming less necessary.
Taste Test and Nutritional Info: SpaghettiOs vs Trader Joe's Organic Joe's O's
Time to compare some lunchtime favorites. I set out to see how the Trader Joe's version stacks up against the original in terms of taste, value and nutrition. I took the cost info from buying the SpaghettiOs at Meijer and the Trader Joe's can from Trader Joe's in Rochester Hills. The nutritional info is based on 1 serving size (1 cup).

I've lived in Rochester Hills for 10 years now. I've driven to the downtown area numerous times. I've passed by Georgio's and always wondered if it would be good. Everyone is familiar with all the typical pizza chains, so the individually owned establishments can either be an unfortunate risk taken, or a breath of fresh air kind of experience.
Georgio's was definitely like a breath of fresh air.
When approaching the restaurant while walking on Main Street, you'll first notice the infamous Georgio's statue. soon after, you'll see the large window where the staff is on display as they make all the homemade pies. You can watch them toss the dough and work the brick oven.
School's IN Diary: Week 6
I can see why the education system has a summer break! The kids were really burning out this week. I decided to cut back on the curriculum work by half (one hour down to a half hour) and increase the fun with some PE boot camp!
Well, maybe not a boot camp, but rather a daily dose of sports and exercise fun. We made trips to the park and practiced baseball and football skills and then finished with play time at the playground. My husband would hit some pop up fly balls and the kids would run all over the field trying to catch them. Then we created targets for throwing the football for a football challenge competition.
Rochester Area Heritage Festival picks new dates and new location to cater to children
The greater Rochester community gathers to celebrate its rich and unique heritage at the 33rd Heritage Festival. The Rochester Area Heritage Festival is history brought to life! This year the festival will celebrate its 33rd anniversary on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25-26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at a new location, Rochester College. The dates and location have been changed to encourage broader audience participation, especially by K-12 children, youth and college students.
The Rochester College campus will showcase a historic location of Avon Township, the college’s farmstead adjacent to the Clinton River. The campus offers abundant space for a look back at some old-time activities, food and demonstrations, parking, and handicap access. Through story telling and displays, the festival will be both fun and educational. Activities will include entertainment, music and children's activities, including the Friends of Dinosaur Hill Pioneer Homestead, a student art exhibit, sidewalk drawing contest, petting farm, wagon rides, arts and crafts sale and a duck race each day. New this year will be a heritage of health area, oral history project and events featuring the campus’s
