Silverdome bounces back with Match of the Titans
The Silverdome returned for their second major event since the new ownership, Triple Investment Group, took over. The first event took place back in April with "Domination at the Dome" (http://www.oaklandcountymoms.com/mommy-diary/1884-review-pontiac-silverdome-reopens-with-monster-truck-event). The event met with mixed reviews. The building looked great but it was clear that there were going to be growing pains. Among the pluses: the building itself is still in fantastic shape, the security was well-managed and it was a well-put together event. Among the cons: The scoreboards are virtually obsolete compared to the Palace and Ford Field, the PA system was atrocious and some of the concession prices fell short of the "budget friendly" fun that was promised. Overall, I felt that "Domination" was an extremely ambitious effort considering what the new management group was up against. I sincerely appreciate the group's committment to the area and trying to restore family fun to the teflon monster on M-59.

Back to School Supplies - the price war: Walmart vs. Target vs. Meijer vs. Office Max
It's hard to believe that we're in August already. It's that time of year to start the Back to School shopping. The stores have geared up for the season and I headed out to see who was offering up the good deals on school supplies.

I priced out nine different items (that are usually on the recommended supplies lists provided by the schools) at four

School's IN Diary: Week 5
We're almost halfway through the summer school process. This past week's focus was on incorporating school lessons into real life. On a daily basis, I would ask questions all day long and get my kids thinking.
For example, I got the kids involved while cooking with recipes this week. I would have them calculate quantities of the ingredients. I would double the recipe or half it so they could figure out the required amounts. It was challenging, but it was interesting to see my son incorporate his knowledge for fractions.
Another great lesson was learned while shopping. I let them take some leftover birthday money and we would make a list of things they wanted along with estimated values. We went to a store and they would look at prices, calculate how

Kabin Kruser's Oyster Bar is located inside the Rochester Chop House and overlooks Main Street in downtown Rochester. It is an Oyster Bar that serves fresh seafood. I had never been there before even though I had always wanted to try it out. Maybe it's because it's in the Chop House which is a favorite restaurant for me and my husband so we automatically get steered in that direction. Well, last night I was out on my own so I headed over to Kabin Kruser's for their sampling night of new menu items.
Kabin Kruser's held an event for their customers to trial some potentially new menu items. They mixed in some of their traditional entrees as well. The new selections will be featured on fliers at the restaurant and if they do well, they might end up on the menu.
Here's what I tried and what I thought:
