Enter to win: September's I love MI!
I Love MI! is in full swing and we are announcing the September package. For those of you who have not yet heard of the contest, we started this program because we love MI and we have many things to celebrate - change of seasons, beautiful vacations spots up north, great school systems, character, and so much more. We know the economy has forced many to leave, but for those of us still here, we celebrate it!
And now on to the good stuff...
THE FINAL School's IN Diary: Week 9
I made this the final week of the summer school program. I gave the kids the option each day to pick from a list of different activities. Having "free choice" made the final week fun.
Looking back, this whole at home summer school program has been an experience, that's for sure. I have a newfound respect for at-home school parents, teachers, tutors, and anyone else that resembles an instructor-like role.
If I had to sum it up, I would say that my initial plan was completely derailed and replaced with a simpler more sane method, i.e. flying by the seat of my pants. I did not spend my Sunday nights writing the lesson plan for the week like I initially planned, but rather woke up 10 minutes before the kids just in time to lay out some of the exercise sheets provided by the teachers at the end of the last school year.

Autism Diary Chapter IX: You can do more than "cross your fingers" when your ASD student goes back to school
Back to school is a nervous time for everyone. Students, teachers, parents... No one escapes the nervousness. In a previous chapter, I spoke in detail about the preparations that my husband and I had made in getting my son into mainstream Kindergarten. Kindergarten was a period of tremendous growth for my son. We were seeing tremendous progress in his abilities as he was better managing many of his ASD symptoms and their side effects.
After Jayson's triumphant mainstream Kindergarten campaign, we found ourselves nervous and excited like every other family waiting for the first bell of the new school year to ring. I remember when I was a kid. I used to run to the mailbox late every August to get the letter from the schools telling me who my teacher was going to be for the new year. I always "crossed my fingers" and hoped I got the nice one or that I would have my best friends in my class. Sometimes crossing my fingers worked, sometimes it didn't. Because of all the research and work we had done with Jayson's Kindergarten teacher, I began thinking about Jayson's prospects

Rochester Play! held a business grand opening and I attended to learn more about it. I took some video footage of the facilities and lots of pictures! I wanted to be able to show you Rochester Play! in its entirety. It's opening soon, and is loads of fun.
The services offered at Rochester Play! include child care, drop-in child care (4 hours or less), open play (parents stay), and the play cafe - an indoor playscape with a healthy cafe.
