How to get your veggie hater to eat veggies

August 26, 2009

My son HATES and refuses to eat his vegetables.  When I say refuses, I mean he pretty much gags and sometimes throws them up.  It's not worth it to me to clean the mess and deal with the hassle. So, for a while, I would give him homemade tomato sauce on his pasta, diced potatoes cooked in olive oil, and carrot juice by Bolthouse Farms.  These were the only vegetables he would take in.  Finally, I decided to buy a juicer.  The one I researched, the Omega, is currently out of stock, so I borrowed a Mr. Juicer from my brother just to see if it is something I would want long term.

I've only had it for a couple of weeks, but I love it! So long as I mix in some fruit with the veggies, the juice is great. My son is eating (or should I say, drinking) spinach, bell peppers, carrots, beets, etc.  Our favorite recipes include our own concoctions of our favorite ingredients.  My son's favorite is spinach leaves, red bell pepper, beet, apple, cherries, and grapes.  It's hard to say how much of each that we use, but honestly, I put quite a bit of spinach in there, about 1/3 of the pepper, 1/3 of a beet, 1 apple, and about 1 1/2 cups each of grapes and pitted cherries.

Be sure to drink the juice within 30 minutes of juicing.  After that, you begin to lose all the precious enzyme content.

Do you have a favorite juicer recipe to share?
