Rice Sock Helps Stomach Aches

August 19, 2008

When I went to Lamaze class a while back, they gave me one good tip (that wasn't even labor related),

and that was to put together a rice sock. Here's how to make a rice sock: I took one of my husband's old tube socks, filled it with white rice and sewed the opening shut. When my kids have a stomach ache, we throw the sock in the microwave and heat it up. It works as a great heating pad, but it is completely safe and you don't need to plug it in. My kids have even fallen asleep with it easily form fitting around their middle while laying in bed. The warm rice is very soothing. Because the long tube sock is filled with rice, it's very bendable. You can wrap the warm rice sock around your neck for soothing neck relief. Something you couldn't do with a hot water bottle. I hope you found this tip helpful! A great sock to use is a durable, thermal sock. The bigger the socks - the better!
