The City of Auburn Hills, a dynamic community committed to innovation and growth, announces the return of its Farmers’ Market on Thursday, June 7th. The Farmers Market will run every Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. through October 18th with Genisys Credit Union again serving as the presenting sponsor.
“Genisys’ renewed sponsorship of the 2012 Farmers’ Market allows us to continue with a seasonal activity that strengthens the greater Auburn Hills community, focuses on healthy lifestyles and allows Michigan vendors a venue to sell their produce, flowers and crafts.”
The 2012 Farmers’ Market promises an exciting variety of Michigan grown fresh flowers, produce and plants, baked goods and unique artisans, according to Market Master Sandy McClure, now in her third year with the Auburn Hills Farmers’ Market.
“The market has confirmations from several quality vendors and is still in search of flower, plant and farm product vendors and select artisans who want to exhibit their craft, as well as those offering specialty food items including meats, cheeses, pasta, sauces and olive oils,” explains McClure. “We would also welcome local restaurant participation and food demonstrations by area chefs. Our goal is to bring people together and give them access to affordable and healthy foods and handmade products that highlight the colors, fragrances, and tastes of Michigan’s growing season.”
Stephanie Carroll, Coordinator of Community Relations and Legislative Affairs for the City of Auburn Hills, oversees the Farmers’ Market operations and says the addition of payment using SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) will offer more customers the option to eat healthy this season.
“Approximately 20% of Michigan residents receive food assistance benefits from SNAP; that’s why there is movement among Farmers’ Markets throughout the state to accept SNAP. We create easy access for local residents and visitors to our City to find and purchase healthy food,” explains Ms. Carroll.
The grand opening ceremony on June 7th begins at 3:00 p.m. and includes a large scale flower sale and an official ribbon cutting with local dignitaries. The Farmers’ Market has expanded its footprint this year and is located in Downtown Auburn Hills on the southeast corner of Squirrel and Auburn Roads.
In addition to vendor opportunities, the Farmers’ Market also offers access at no charge to an on-site Community Tent. The Community Tent offers local businesses, non-profits and religious organizations a venue to share their services with the community or introduce a new product or service. Vendors or local organizations interested in participating in the Farmers’ Market should contact Sandy McClure at 248.504.8102 or
