Baldwin Public Library offers several events each month for toddlers, children, teens and families throughout the month.

Here is this month's event calendar for the Baldwin Public Library as well as ongoing library events...

Baldwin Public Library (Birmingham) Youth Programs and events

  • The Ruff Readers
    Read aloud to the best listener on earth- a specially trained dog from Therapy Dogs International.  Ages 6 and up. Registration Required.
    Dates: Tuesday, May 15th at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, May 19th at 10 a.m.
  • Rockin' Reptiles
    Wildlife conservationist Dan the Creature Man will discuss and display his fascinating collection of live reptiles. Check out some great reptile books, make a craft to take home, and get your special Reptile Day sticker! All ages. Register now!
    Date: May 5th at 10:30a.
  • A Gift for Mother Story Time
    Family story time. All ages welcome. Stories and a special present to make for Mom. Register today! Date: May 9th at 6:30p.
  • Great Parents, Great Start Workshops
    When You're Stressed & You Know It
    Presented by an Oakland Schools Great Parents Great Start Parent Educator
    Parents, babysitters, caregivers, and teachers of children 0-5 years

  • BabyTime - 0-18-months
    Every other Monday & Tuesday at 10 & 11 a.m.
    Registration required
    Dates: May 7 and 8
  • Mother Goose - 18-30-months
    Every other Tuesday & Wednesday at 10 & 11 a.m.
    Registration required
    Dates: May 2 and 16
  • Sing & Tell - 2-1/2 - 3-1/2 years
    Every other Wednesday & Friday at 10 & 11 a.m.
    Registration Required
    Dates: May 9 and 11
  • Just Me Stories -3-1/2 - 5 years
    Every other Thursday at 11 a.m.
    Registration Required
    Dates: May 3 and 17
  • My First Math & Science - Ages 3 and up
    Every other Wednesday & Thursday at 2 p.m.

    Dates: May 2, 3, 16 and 17

Baldwin Public Library (Birmingham) Teen Events

  • Frushi Fest
    Frushi, or fruit sushi, is made with fruit and sweetened sticky rice. Sushi chef Adam Sakurayama is joining us again at the library to demonstrate how to make frushi. You will be supplied with rolling mats, chopsticks, and the ingredients needed to create edible works of art. Registration required. May 17th from 7-8:30p.
  • Shrinky Dink Art
    Join us to create fun accessories, like keychains, pet tags, or necklaces using Shrinky Dinks, a "magic" plastic that shrinks down to 1/3 of its original size and thickens when heated.
    May 31st from 7-8:30p.

Baldwin Public Library (Birmingham) Ongoing Teen Events

  • Teen Open Study Lab
    Need a place to study away from home? Come to the library to prepare for exams. No time limits, no sign in, just a quiet place to work. Check the Adult Services Desk for quiet study locations during your exam week.
  • Teen Media Nights
    No need to register. Just drop in & play our Wii and brand new XBox with Kinect! You can bring your own gaming console and games if you'd like. Please label your personal equipment!  If you don't feel like gaming, we'll also have a movie set up on one of the big screens. Teen Librarians pick!
    Dates: May 24th from 6:30-8:30
    Pizza and Pages
    Be one of the first 20 teens to register and get a free copy of the "book of the month" at the Adult Services Desk. Join us for pizza and a great book discussion. This program is co-sponsored by Cottage Inn Pizza. Books are generously donated by the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library.

  • Fix your Photos
    Did you know that there’s some great photo editing tools that will make your pictures look like a million bucks, and they’re free? There are. So, come to the class and let’s edit some pictures. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of Windows, Internet navigation and use of a mouse.

  • Altzheimer's Lecture and Discussion Series: The series is designed for spouses, adult children, caregivers and interested adults who want to learn more about the latest information and issues around Alzheimer’s and dementia. Presented by Debra Mittelbach, N.H.A., C.D.P., Executive Director of Arden Courts Memory Care Community of Bingham Farms and a member of the Alzheimer’s Association Speakers Bureau.

  • Build a Website
    May 8, 15, 22 at 7p.
    $15.00) This three-session class introduces participants to free online-hosted services that allow the creation, sharing and editing of customized web pages. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of Windows, word processing functions, Internet navigation and how to use a mouse. $5.00 fee and registration required.
