It was a hot day, but it didn't hinder the fun and excitement. Oakland County Parks put together a great event with bouncers, rock climbing walls, scavenger hunt (with waterpark passes as a prize!), face painting, lunch, and much more. They even set up some sprinklers so guests could cool off!
Guests came out to celebrate the grand opening of the Michigan themed playscape that was built to encourage creativity and imagination, as well as cater to all age levels and abilities. The Playground was designed to address issues of accessiblity and promote inclusive play. (The project meets requirements set by the American with Disabilites Act (ADA)). The playscape was made possible thanks to a $250,000 grant received by W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

The winner of the naming contest, along with another entrant, were granted the honor of cutting the ribbon at the ribbon cutting ceremony. The winning entry was submitted by 9-year-old Royal Oak resident Benjamin Godfrey. His entry was selected from nearly 200 proposed names.
The Great Lakes–themed universally accessible play structure features climbing and learning fun for everyone! Look for an “up north woods” cabin, tree fort play structure, sand dunes area, marsh with cattails, raised sand play area and multiple climbing areas. Colorful rubberized surfacing depicts Michigan’s lakes, dunes and forests. Little explorers can discover Michigan's wonders and learn about the Great Lakes State through simulated rock, water and fossil features.
Paradise Peninsula Playscape is located at 1702 Scott Lake Road, Waterford, Michigan.
