I have a new favorite sled hill in Oakland County. Lost Lake Nature Park in Oakland is a 55 plus acre park in Oakland that features hiking, wildlife observation, shore fishing and some of the finest sledding in Michigan. (video after the jump)

The sledding hill at Lost Lake Nature Park is well-organized and well-taken care of. This is because the park has its own caretaker that lives in the park. Lost Lake Nature Park's sled hill is steep and fast! The sled hill is wide enough to accommodate numerous sledders at once and fast enough to thrill kids and adults. There are well organized boundaries and a separate walkway up the hill for safety purposes. Seating areas and picnic tables dot the landscape and there is even a toasty warming shelter to rest in. You can also rent the warming shelter for private sledding parties. The sledding fun isn't limited to daylight hours. Lost Lake Nature Center offers night sledding on Saturdays and Wednesdays courtesy of the numerous tree top lamp towers that light up the hill. Other Lost Lake Nature Park amenities include portable toilets and graded parking.
The trails throughout the park are excellent for viewing seasonal wildlife. Shore fishing is permitted with a valid license on the beautiful Lost Lake situated at the front of the park. The trails are wide enough snow-shoe in the winter months. Path access also reaches Green Lake toward the southern end of the property.
Lost Lake Nature Park is maintained by the Charter Township of Oakland Parks and Recreation Commission. Proposed improvements for the future at Lost Lake Nature Park include: a fishing pier, boardwalks and a nature center in the house on the site that currently houses the park's caretaker.
Sled Hill hours are from 10a-sunset Monday-Sunday with night-time sledding permitted on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The park is easy to find. Just take Rochester Road north and turn left at Predmore Road (about 7 miles from downtown Rochester). Once on Predmore, the park will be about a mile and half down the road on the left hand side. Park entry/sleddding is FREE.
