Expert Toy Recommendations - November

November 03, 2011

altThe Doll Hospital and Toy Soldier Shop in Berkley has been in business since 1948. It is a family owned business that has evolved over the years, and is known for its quality toy selection. DHTSS takes pride in knowing what toys are quality made and will keep kids occupied and entertained. And, none of them are video game related!

Jack Zagrodzki of Doll Hospital and Toy Soldier Shop has agreed to recommend toys for Oakland County Moms each month with three of his toy recommendations.

Here's the November list of toy recommendations from the Doll Hospital and Toy Soldier Shop in Berkley:

Aggravation - Board Game Review

October 31, 2011

altMy family loves board games and we have quite a collection. It was my son's turn to pick the game on a recent "family board game night" and he opted for the family to play the Parker Brothers game Aggravation. I decided to review the game.

Gaiam Foam Roller for Sore Backs

October 26, 2011

altIf you have a sore back full of knotted muscles, this might be a solution that will interest you. I met the owner of a massage therapy salon and she recommended a Gaiam foam roller. Julie of Revitalizing Touch Wellness Spa told me she has recommended this product to many and all have loved it. Time for a review...

Puss in Boots Movie Review

October 23, 2011

altI had the opportunity to see Puss in Boots at a pre-screening. The movie officially comes out in theatres Friday, October 28.

Pumpkin Bread Mix - Trader Joe's

October 07, 2012

altTrader Joe's has some specialty pumpkin products that are offered seasonally and this is the time to get them. I recently bought the Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix at Trader Joe's for $2.99. I made a loaf and it was a great fall treat. Here is a variation and recipe you can do with the Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mix to give it a twist.

IcoSoKu Jr - Toy Review

October 09, 2011

altIcoSoKu Jr. from recent toys dot com (website) is a fun, educational puzzle toy for kids ages 5-10. IcoSoKu Jr. resembles the ever so popular Sudoku. IcoSoKu Jr. is a math-based puzzle like Sudoku but it's not as difficult so your kids will not get discouraged by it. They will be able to solve the puzzle (with some "work") and feel proud of themselves.

Family Game Night - Hub TV Show

September 25, 2011

altI don't review TV shows too often but Family Game Night on Hub (formerly Discovery Kids) is excellent. Family Game Night is a game show for families based on classic Hasbro games and board games. I tripped into Family Game Night on Hub a few months ago and my kids really enjoy it.

Talking Car Technology Makes Driving Safer

August 24, 2011

altI was contacted by representatives from Denso to come out and learn about a new technology being developed that could make it safer to drive. It is called Talking Car Technology (or vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) technology, otherwise known as V2X.)

For the past decade, automakers, suppliers and the government have been working to develop Talking Car Technology. V2X allows your vehicle to communicate with other vehicles and traffic lights. For example, you're at a stoplight and it just turned green. You're about to accelerate, but before you do, your car tells you the intersection is unsafe stopping you from hitting the car that's running the red light. See video for a demonstration.

Perfect Baby Gift Idea for New Moms

July 13, 2011

altMy Child Is Sick! by Barton D. Schmitt, MD, FAAP

Every mom wishes her baby could talk and tell her what's wrong. Or, she could feel what her child is feeling because it's hard to gauge when a child says she feels really sick. I know moms with four children who are still thrown a curve ball and don't know what to do when their child is sick.

Million Dollar Pyramid - Nintendo Wii

July 10, 2011

altI don't review many video games as part of Oakland County Moms. I have reasons for reviewing the ones I do for the testimonial section though. Some of these games actually have decent educational qualities to them. Though clearly not designed with education in mind, Million Dollar Pyramid (along with other games like it) does have educational benefits.
