May 22, 2013

altHow to use your breadmaker for more than bread and pizza crust - make your own jams and jellies

I am not a big fan of canning, but I do love finding as many uses as possible for my breadmaker. The latest is homemade jam - a canning favorite.

Breadmaker Bagel Recipe - Make Your Own Bagels

May 01, 2013

altSunday bagels and a big breakfast are a tradition in our home. And, of course, we have that favorite bagel shop or bakery that is a bit of a drive. So, rather than send my husband out each week, we thought we'd try and make them homemade with our Hamilton Beach Breadmaker that I absolutely love.

Turkey Brining Recipe with video

If you want to improve your chances of delivering a juicy bird, try brining. Brining makes a turkey extra juicy.

Brining adds moisture and flavor to poultry and helps to keep it from drying out. A turkey can be a serious investment in time so you want to make sure it is perfect, especially if you're entertaining. Whether you grill, smoke, fry, or roast your turkey, you should use a brined bird.

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds Recipe

Don't throw out the pumpkin seeds when making Jack-O-Lanterns or cooking fresh pumpkins, they make great snacks that are rich in fiber as well as vitamins B and E. Kids especially love them. Purists will want only salt as a seasoning, but if you're feeling adventurous, experiment and have fun with seasoning blends.  Last year I tried the garlic powder and salt and it was really good. I also went with the olive oil over the butter, and tried to keep up the healthy attributes.

Green Tomato Salsa Recipe

October 13, 2012

altWith Fall comes the end of the tomato season. We ended our tomato season with several green tomatoes. Rather than sit the green tomatoes on a window sill to ripen, I decided to take a stab at a Green Tomato Salsa recipe. I just recently tried green tomato salsa for the first time. I'd say the color held me back a bit but once I tried green tomato salsa, I really liked it.
