I had been at Fuji Japanese Steak House restaurant back when it was Kublai Khan. Now, there is the name change and the menu offers up Chinese, Thai, and Japanese cuisine. Here is my review:
It's been many years since my husband and I tried Fuji Japanese Steak House and we weren't too fond of it back when we tried it, although I can't recall why since it's been so long. Maybe we're just too spoiled by our favorite at Kwong Tung.
Anyway, I had heard about the Fuji Japanese Steak House sweet and sour chicken being awesome here, so I thought I would give it another try (plus the closer establishments were closed and I just couldn't stand to cook!).
I decided not to get too much food so I stuck with a pint of the chicken which came with a side of rice. I also got the chicken unbreaded and the rice steamed instead of fried, to keep it a little bit on the healthier side. It's a bit tough for me to judge the dish since it was actually my first time trying sweet and sour chicken. The Fuji Japanese Steak House chicken was a good quality. Sometimes, I don't luck out with that. I have had fatty pieces of chicken or those gross tendons, etc. But in this case, these were good chunks of white meat, and I know that for sure because they weren't hiding behind any breading. The sauce was very sweet with a touch of sour. It was pretty good. I think it was probably better than most, I'm just not a huge fan of sweet and sour sauce.
The prices at Fuji Japanese Steak House are ok. I think my bill came to $7.50 or something close. I know I could have gotten it cheaper at other places, but sometimes, you get what you pay for.
Fuji Japanese Steak House packaged the meat in a container and the sauce and rice also in separate containers. I mixed it all together however I liked. I was eating pretty late at night, so I ate half and saved the rest for tomorrow. I was definitely full enough.
The inside of Fuji Japanese Steak House was nicely done. If my family was a fan of Japanese food, I would totally give it a try. Fuji Japanese Steak House have the traditional set up of the grill surrounded by the seating and tables. I think kids would get a big kick out of the food being cooked in front of them.
