Georgio's Pizza and Pasta Restaurant - Rochester

August 08, 2010

altI've lived in Rochester Hills for 10 years. I've driven to the downtown area numerous times. I've passed by Georgio's and always wondered if it would be good. Here is my review:

Everyone is familiar with all the typical pizza chains, so the individually owned establishments can either be an unfortunate risk taken, or a breath of fresh air kind of experience.

Georgio's Pizza was definitely like a breath of fresh air.

When approaching Georgio's Pizza while walking on Main Street, you'll first notice the infamous Georgio's statue. soon after, you'll see the large window where the staff is on display as they make all the homemade pies. You can watch them toss the dough and work the brick oven.

The pizza is a New York style pie. It's the only kind of pizza they serve and they're proud of that. The slices are huge and the ingredients are fresh. The dough and crust are delicious. They use thick-cut pepperoni ala The Green Lantern. In fact, think of Georgio's like a New York-style version of Green Lantern pizza. They taste remarkably similar.

Georgio's Pizza isn't the cheapest place to eat but the prices are fair (especially when you factor in the quality). They offer typical pizza varieties (cheese, Meat Lovers, Vegetarian and an offshoot of a Supreme called Extravaganza) as well as 14 types of Gourmet Pizzas. I can't wait to order "The Italian Stallion" someday (sauteed sausage, peppers, onions and hotsauce)! Whatever your hunger, I recommend getting an X-Large. It's an 18" monster and probably the best way to eat NY-style pizza. Don't sweat the leftovers, it re-heats very well. Georgio's Pizza has a fairly extensive menu beyond pizza. They also serve a variety of calzones, pastas and subs.

There are a million pizza places in Metro Detroit. When facing a pepperoni mine field, sometimes it's not worth rolling the dice on a place you're not familiar with.Georgio's Pizza is worth stepping out of your comfort zone for. Especially if you love thin crust New York style pizza!

You can either dine in or do carry-out. The Georgio's Pizza restaurant is cozy and very family friendly.
