My husband had been to a Shields pizza restaurant when he was younger and really enjoyed it, so we were excited to hear that a location was open in Rochester Hills, at the SE corner of Rochester Rd. and Tienken.
The atmosphere at Shields great. Shields is the perfect place to hang out. Shields is wide open with a bar area on one side and the restaurant seating on the other side. There are TV's that can be seen from no matter where you are seated. The Shields booths are comfortable; there are convenient coat hooks at each seating. There is even a bit of local memorabilia within the decor.
And, very importantly, they have free Wi-Fi!
We had the deep dish pizza, salad with breadsticks, and a dessert. I am very picky and would give the pizza, salad, and breadsticks a 3.5/5 stars. I prefer pizza from other restaurants (I did not care for the sauce or crust), the salad was ok (I would prefer a Romaine lettuce vs. the iceberg), and the breadsticks looked better than they tasted. The dessert was awesome and earns 5 stars. We got the Sunken Treasure which is a brownie topped with vanilla ice cream, Saunder's hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry.
Even though I was somewhat disappointed with Shields pizza, I will definitely go back. I love the atmosphere so much, the service was great, and I can't wait to bring my laptop and hang out with the Wi-Fi. Also, Shields has a very extensive menu that I look forward to trying out. There are sandwiches, pastas, burgers, main entrees (ribs, fish, etc.), and unique appetizers, such as, potato wrapped shrimp, pepperoni pockets, and salmon skewers. There is also a very large drink menu with a huge wine list. Shields has a great reputation for having awesome food, so I am thinking I might be alone with my thoughts on the pizza and salad.
I would say Shields is family, date and carryout friendly. It is casual and even has a couple of video games. If my kids did not have their food allergies, I would happily take them there.
