Cleaning an Oil Mess out of Clothing

January 31, 2008

I recently dripped oil on a new shirt while eating. I was on vacation at my mom’s so I checked out her cupboards looking for something that could soak it up. All I could find at first was flour so I tried it out.

It did not work at all. Finally, I found talcum powder which worked great. I had to apply some, wait for it to soak it up, brush off the crusted powder, and reapplied fresh powder. I repeated these steps until the stain was gone. So, if you’ve ever heard about using powder to soak up an oil stain on clothes, I can tell you, it really does work. But, don’t waste your time trying flour. Maybe I will give cornstarch a shot next time.
