Our friends at the Orion Township Public Library sent us a press release stating that OTPL is taking part of the Michigan DNR Park and Read Program along with many other Oakland County Libraries. Park and Read summer reading program offers free one day passes for any of Michigan's 98 state parks. This $10 savings also provides a one-time, free access to more than 500 events taking place in state parks throughout the summer. It's also the perfect chance to visit parks outside of Oakland County when taking the kids on vacation!
Summer is almost here and it is the perfect time to visit your local library to enroll in a summer reading program for the kids. My kids are enrolled at the Rochester Hills Public Library. The enjoy the progressive reading rewards the library offers for their reading.

Here are the details of the Park and Read Program:
The Department of Natural Resources and the Library of Michigan have teamed up once again to offer their popular Park & Read program at more than 400 participating libraries across the state. The program, now in its fourth year, offers library card-holders the option of checking out a one-day pass that waives the Recreation Passport entry fee into any of Michigan's 101 state parks and recreation areas.
The one-day pass, a $10 savings, also provides free, one-time access to any of the more than 500 events scheduled to take place within the state parks throughout the summer. Passes are valid for seven days from checkout and are good for day use only. Park & Read runs now through Oct. 1, 2012.
Many participating parks even offer hammocks for loan. Set up under a shady tree and read, snooze or watch the clouds drift by.
