Art and Apples Apple Pie Recipe – This is the 2nd-place winning pie recipe for the 2014 Art and Apples Festival in Downtown Rochester MI.

This Art and Apples Apple Pie recipe won 2nd place in the pie category for Bob Gilbert of Rochester Hills.

ART AND APPLES APPLE PIE CRUST RECIPE INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4-5 tbsp water

ART AND APPLES APPLE PIE CRUST RECIPE DIRECTIONS
Mix the flour, shortening and salt in a medium bowl. Add the warm water, 1tbsp at a time, until dough is firm. Roll out the dough and mold it into the pie dish, removing the excess.

  • 5 granny smith apples- peeled, cored, sliced and diced
  • 1 stalk of rhubarb- finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup pecans- finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp bourbon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1-2 tsp cinnamon

Mix the apples, rhubarb and pecans in a large bowl; sprinkle bourbon over mixture – set aside Mix the sugar, flour and cinnamon- add to the apple/rhubarb/pecan mixture and mix well. Fill the pie with the apple mixture.

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup quick oats
  • 1 stick butter- melted

ART AND APPLES APPLE PIE TOPPING RECIPE DIRECTIONS
Mix the flour, sugar and oats together in a medium bowl. Add the melted butter and mix until the crust is crumbly. Carefully pour the top crust mixture onto the apple mixture and smooth evenly.

ART AND APPLES APPLE PIE RECIPE BAKING DIRECTIONS
Place in an oven pre-heated to 350 degrees on a middle rack. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.
