Overall, the Av Bay Indoor Waterpark is a sure hit. The waterslides are all fast, entertaining, thrilling and loved by people of all ages. Av Bay is the largest waterpark in Michigan and it truly offers an action-packed experience. Av Bay has set the bar high for its competition. I’ve been to other indoor waterparks Up North where the fun wears off quickly for kids over 12. Avalanche Bay is a blast for kids, pre-teens and teens. I also saw plenty of adults hitting the waterslides and surf simulator. Click the official Avalanche Bay website for more details.

Avalanche Bay Boyne Mountain Resort / Mountain Grand Lodge & Spa Review
There are many places to stay if you’re planning a trip to Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark. We stayed at the Mountain Grand Lodge (highly recommended), which is connected to the waterpark.

Other lodging options and they’re proximity to the Avalanche Bay waterpark include

  • Mountain Grand Lodge – Connected to waterpark, indoor walk
  • Edelweiss Lodge – Short outdoor walk
  • Clock Tower Lodge – Short outdoor walk
  • Mountain Villas – Short outdoor walk
  • Village at Disciples Ridge – Short outdoor walk to short drive
  • Creekside – Short drive
  • Mountain Cabins – Short drive
  • Deer Lake Villas – Short drive
  • Boynehof – Short outdoor walk

The Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa is Boyne Mountain’s premier hotel. The Mountain Grand provides first-class accommodations featuring such amenities as fireplaces, kitchenettes, and flat screen televisions. Each room features the “Boyne Bed” which is made with high thread count sheets, lots of plush, and plenty of comfort. We definitely slept well – The Boyne Bed was unexpected luxury on a family vacation!

The Mountain Grand Lodge also offers salon and spa services, whirlpools, indoor/outdoor pools – including an outdoor pool that stays open and heated year-round. We enjoyed an outdoor swim as the temps dropped to 32 degrees outside at night.

There are many different rooms to choose from so there’s something for everyone and every occasion.

Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa Rooms Info
There are 14 different style rooms with all sorts of features. Some include a full kitchen, which was one of the amenities we had in the Salzburg Suite. Our suite was laid out with a main floor and an upstairs. The main floor housed the kitchenette, living area, fireplace, balcony and one bathroom. The upper level housed the bedrooms and another bathroom. There was a master suite with a king-sized bed, a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed, and a third kids room with two bunk beds that slept four in a cozy, cute fort-style room. Each room has its own TV. This suite really feels like a home away from home. The kitchenette convenience was great as well. We were able to whip up food quickly in our suite and head out the door for fun.

Avalanche Bay Boyne Mountain Resort  / Dining at Boyne
Boyne Mountain has several dining options within it so you don’t have to drive to get to a restaurant. There are places all within walking distance. We mostly cooked, but we did venture out to Everett’s Restaurant once for dinner. Everett’s is located inside Mountain Grand Lodge. Other restaurants, stores and specialty shops are dotted around Boyne and offer even more opportunities for fun and things to do.

Free activities at Mountain Grand Lodge/Boyne Mountain

– outdoor yard games
– swimming
– s’mores and nighttime bonfire
– chair lift rides
– movie times
– story times
– fitness room (for ages 16 and over)
– hayride

The pleasant surprises of our trip were all the fun activities that take place around Mountain Grand Lodge and Spa. The indoor/outdoor swimming is tremendous and the workout room trumps most fitness rooms you find at most hotels and resorts. The free activities at Boyne are perfect for when your kids (finally) tire of hours and hours of waterpark fun at Av Bay. It’s not difficult to find fun at Boyne, it’s very hard to try to fit in all the activities! Sure the resort is taylor-made for family fun but you could also visit Boyne for a weekend getaway with friends or that special someone for a spa getaway.

Avalanche Bay Big Coulouir
The thrilling The Big Couloir, begins in a launch capsule and features a trap door that drops away and propels riders into an enclosed tunnel traveling at speeds up to 38 feet per second through the length of the 360 degree SuperLOOP™ before slowing with a splash.  The Big Couloir welcomes riders 48 inches and taller.

“The Big Couloir is a fast, unique, and hair-raising ride,” says Ed Grice, Boyne Mountain Resort’s president and general manager.  “The slide is sure to be a hit with juniors, teens, and adults and will be a great addition to the waterpark.”
