Red Oaks Nature Center Maple Magic – Maple syrup is an icon of our region. Learn to identify maple trees, take a hike to tap a tree and taste the sap. We will teach you the tools, tips and methods needed to make your own batch of maple syrup at home. Taste some sweet maple treats and take home maple-based recipes. Some tasty treats may be made in factories that process nut products. This program is suitable for all ages. Cost: $7/person. Call 248-858-0916 weekdays to register. Oakland County Parks will mark the Juneteenth holiday by waiving vehicle entry fees on Monday, June 19. Oakland County Parks’ Mobile Recreation Unit will also be participating in local celebration and commemoration events honoring Juneteenth throughout Oakland County with fun, free activities such as inflatables, games, climbing towers and more.
Visitors can enjoy access to general park activities, including trails, dog parks, playgrounds, picnic areas, beaches and fishing spots from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset (unless otherwise posted).
Red Oaks Nature Center Morning Munchkins – Story-time fun for preschool children. Bring your munchkin to the nature center for a seasonal story and a related hands-on, nature-based discovery activity. Cost is $4/child. Call 248-858-0916 weekdays to register. Spencer Park Bass Tournament – The Park Bass Tournament is open to ALL AGES and SKILL LEVELS. All fishing is done from shore and there will be prizes for the most bass caught and also for the largest bass. Tournament participation is $5. Participants receive free park vehicle entry.
