Droid 2 Review – review of the Droid 2 by Verizon Wireless and comparisons to the first Droid, Droid X, and Droid Incredible. The Droid 2 (the successor and another Android device) is no different. Here is my Droid 2 review:
What is most impressive is how Verizon Wireless and Motoral continue to make improvements on a product that is already impressive. It’s all about attention to detail and working to make everything ideal.
When I first turned the Droid 2 on, it took me through the simplest startup ever. I was up and running in no time, with a phone customized for me.
After playing with the phone for about 2 weeks, I couldn’t find flaws and shortcomings if I tried. Every time I had a thought of “I wonder if it could do this,” it came through. One example was when I was sitting in my car waiting to pick the kids up from school. I had turned off the engine and did not want to drain the battery by listening to the radio. So, I went to the Droid, searched for a radio station’s website, and clicked on the “Listen Live” tab. It worked!
There was one function that I could not find (but this could easily be due to user error) was the ability to attach multiple photos in one step when uploading to an email. For example, I was looking to email myself 6 different pics I had just taken of my kids. When I opened the email and began attaching the pics, I had to attach the pictures one at a time. I would love to be able to pull up the photo gallery, select multiple pictures and then attach all of them in one shot.
A few features I need in a phone are twitter capabilities (including twitpic), an efficient processer, a “real” keyboard, and time saving email use. On all counts, the Droid 2 does not disappoint.
Using Twitpic has come a long way with these phones. What used to require numerous steps is just about done for you now.
The phone is quick. I have no patience for slow machines so it is nice having the reliability of speed with this phone. Of course, like any electronic device, there were a couple moments of “lag” time, but it was not the norm. I would go from website to website with ease and speed. Plus, I noticed how so many more websites functioned as if I was at a real computer. Could this be due to the addition of Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, allowing for access to the full web? Wow.
I love the QWERTY keyboard on this phone. It uses the slide open keypad with raised keys. VERY easy to type on. And, when you prefer not to use the keypad, you can always turn on the SWYPE capabilities and use the touchscreen. Or, if you are looking for a “hands free” method, the text-to-speech feature is great. I used the mic to send a text and it was quite accurate in picking up my speech, and much quicker than typing!
And, of course, checking email while out and about has become more common and a necessity. This phone allows me to see all of my email accounts at the same time. I set up my aol accounts as well as my gmail account with complete ease. Yes, I have too many email accounts. This phone makes it easy to organize them all.
Finally, the 5 megapixel camera with flash works nicely and the 3.7-inch display is more than adequate.
Overall, a very impressive phone.
