Founders Sports Park Farmington Hills

Founders Sports Park Farmington Hills review, pics, and info for Farmington Hills Sports Park, Riley Skate Park, and Farmington Hills Ice Arena all located at one destination on the north side of 8 Mile Rd just east of Halsted in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Founders Sports Park and its features are all operated and maintained by the City of Farmington Hills. Like Heritage Park, The City of Farmington Hills uses Founders extensively for parks and rec programs.

Founders Sports Park Farmington Hills

The Founders Sports Park Complex sits on over 100 acres of land that includes Riley Skate Park, the Farmington Hills Ice Arena, disc golf, a /75 mile fitness trail, concessions, modern restrooms, and a picnic area. The athletic fields and ice arena are heavily used by the Farmington Hills Special Services (Parks & Rec department). Despite the size and sheer number of amenities on the complex, it is very easy to locate and park near whichever activity or field you’re going to be attending. The park is extremely well “thought out” in terms of the layout and convenience. Parking is a breeze, even on busy evenings at Founders with lots of activities. Founders was built with the mindset of “providing families, especially teens, to have a place to go, all year around, like the mall or movies”. Mission accomplished. Founders is extremely teen-friendly. I’ll explain below.

Riley Skate Park Farmington Hills

Riley Skate Park is a 29,000 sq feet of concrete skate park near the west entrance of Founders Sports Park. The layout is of the course is designed for skaters of all skill levels and there is plenty of places to watch. Skateboard legend Tony Hawk has even visited Riley Skate Park! Every time I have visited the skate park, I’ve seen a lot of activity. It’s a great, judgment-free place for teens and I often see kids helping others and teaching them to skate.

Farmington Hills Ice Arena

Farmington Hills Ice Arena is a 70,000 square-foot facility with 2 rinks and a seating capacity of over 1200. The location is used for pickup hockey, youth league and high school hockey, open skating, skating lessons, figure skating clubs, and learn to skate programs through the FH Special Services Department. The 2nd floor of the Farmington Hills Ice Arena is home to Club 2nd Floor – a supervised after school hangout for teens that includes board games, video games, books, foosball tables, soft drinks, and more. It’s the nicest rec room I’ve been in and has great views of the ice rinks below. Club 2nd Floor at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena has even been known to host music on Friday and Saturday nights.
