What is “girl-led”? Girl-led is what sets Girl Scout programming apart. The girl-led philosophy is that girls can and should choose their own adventures and experiences. Doing so allows girls to build confidence, practice decision-making skills, and grow into the bold leaders they are destined to be. At camp, this means that girls get to choose how they want to spend their time. Each evening, they decide as individuals what they want to do the next day. Girl Scout Camp is so much more than a day care or something to do for a week – it’s a life-changing experience for your girl.
During week-long sessions, girls spend time swimming, boating, practicing target sports, rock climbing, doing arts and crafts, singing, laughing, and so much more. Girls choose what their week looks like.
If your girl wants to try overnight camp, but she isn’t ready for a whole week away from home, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan offers “Mini Camps” – a three day session where she can see what camp is all about. During mini sessions, girls get to do everything they would do during a full session, but in a few days instead of a whole week.
Some of the most popular camp sessions are horse sessions. Also available in mini or week-long sessions, horse camps give girls the option to spend quality time riding and caring for horses.
Some overnight camp options for older girls also include travel opportunities. The following trips are scheduled this summer
- Sleeping Bear Dunes/South Manitou Island
- Pictured Rocks
- Manistee River Paddle Trip
- Porcupine Mountain Trip
- Upper Peninsula Road Trip
