Greens Art Supply in downtown Rochester is a large art supply store that pretty much has every art supply imaginable… you need it, they most likely got it. As the local art experts in town, Greens Art Supply also offers art classes. They hold classes for all age groups – younger 4-8, tweens 9-14, and adults 15+.
My 11-year old daughter has always shown interest in art so we tried out an art class at Greens Art Supply. We went during a summer session that focused on pop art. Greens Art Supply chose a different pop artist to be featured at each of the sessions. My daughter’s class studied the art works of Andy Warhol.
The class started with a video featuring the artist and his style. It was entertainment for the younger audience and taught the children some of history behind the Andy Warhol and his style and inspirations.
The kids are given an oversized shirt to wear so they don’t mess up their clothes. They get a nice solid block of 3 hours to use different medium and explore. The course is taught by an art teacher; Ms. Bitzinger taught my daughter’s class. She kept the kids’ attention and made the class interesting and entertaining. The kids seemed to relate to her very well.
They started off by sketching a small version of what they wanted their final drawing to be. The teacher walked around and helped each of the children. She pointed things out, made suggestions, etc. She did what she could so that the final art piece achieved the best final results possible.
Kids are inspired and excited as soon as they enter Greens Art Supply because they are surrounded with all kinds of art supplies. The art classes at Greens Art Supply are held in the store right out in the open rather than in a class room.
