My family must think I need help in the cleaning department as my mother-in-law purchased the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner for me as a gift recently, and at right about the same time as my mom buying me the Shark Steam Cleaner.
Actually, the same holds true as for the Shark Steam Cleaner – my mother-in-law has one of these herself and loves it so she got one for me.
The Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner is a newer model than the one she has so I think it differs slightly.
Being that this is a pretty heavy machine for someone with a bad back, I had to defer this job to the hubby, who wasn’t all too thrilled, especially since I watched over him like a hawk so I could write this review.
I have to preface this review with the fact that we never wear shoes in our house and we always sit at the table to eat, so there was no huge daunting task to clean our mud trodden white carpet here. Nonetheless, every carpet needs a good cleaning periodically. And this was proven by the color of the water after cleaning.
The first thing we noticed about the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner was the short cord. It is so short, I felt compelled to measure it. It is just shy of 20 feet long. I’m used to my vacuum cleaner’s 30+ foot cord length. It enables me to do two rooms as it is plugged into one outlet. With the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner, my husband had to switch outlets while in the same room. This also made it difficult to not step on the wet/cleaned areas.
The cleaning quality of the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner for our needs is definitely satisfactory. I would even go so far as to say that using white vinegar in place of the Hoover soap yielded the same results. My husband did two rooms with the vinegar and the other two rooms with the Hoover soap. The results were the same, and we tend to think that there could be less residue left behind when using the vinegar. That’s a huge savings considering the 128 oz. bottle of Hoover Deep Cleansing Carpet detergent runs about $17. Of course, we went against the warnings that claimed using anything other than the recommended soap could cause electrical shock, but it was worth it (says wife who made husband take the risk).
My husband made sure to rinse each row 1-2 times after using the soap. I highly recommend this, and the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner conveniently comes with a rinse only mode.
The dry time was under 3 hours and is improved by just running the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner over the carpet path to suck up as much water as possible.
One last point to mention, the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner comes with several hand tools and a hose that wraps around a rack on the back side. However, as soon as you recline the handle, the hose portion easily falls off. Not a big deal, but just a point to mention.
Overall, the Hoover Max Extract All Terrain Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner does a quality job. My mother-in-law says it works better for her than any professional service she’s brought in. And that’s coming from someone who has pets and occasionally wears shoes in the house.
