I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! Author Interview – review of the book and an interview with the book’s author, Julie Llewellyn.
Julie Llewellyn is a local Michigan author who has just written her first book, I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! is a childrens book about perseverance and aims to teach kids that if you try hard enough at something, you can attain your goals. Hard work pays off! I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! takes place in Michigan and uses the example of a young girl learning how to water ski to prove to herself (and her brother) that she can do it.
I interviewed Julie Llewellyn about her book, I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it!, and the Michigan inspiration behind it. Here’s what she had to say:
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Teaching kids to keep trying, even when it’s tough is a great lesson that goes a long way. What was your inspiration behind the topic of your book and showing kids that hard work makes things happen?
I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! Author Julie Llewellyn – The story is based on my own childhood summer vacations. All of my summer vacations were spent up north at our cottage and I remember trying to waterski during a lot of them.
Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – I appreciate when local authors in Michigan have their books setting in Michigan. The areas of Michigan that you mentioned in your book (Ann Arbor, Northern Michigan – Norah)… are these places you’ve lived and are familiar with? I’m not familiar with Norah.
I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! Author Julie Llewellyn – I have visited Ann Arbor. My editor and I wanted a location that would be known as in Michigan, so we picked Ann Arbor. Norah is a made-up location, but I am very familiar with Northern Michigan. Our cottage is in Gaylord, which is about an hour south of Mackinaw.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! is your first book. Do you have any plans for more books and will they be Michigan focused?
I Am Not a Wimp! And, I’ll Prove it! Author Julie Llewellyn – I do have ideas for other books, but am currently working on marketing and selling this one. All the books should be Michigan focused.
