Jerry Rice Interview

Jerry Rice Interview – I had the opportunity to interview Jerry Rice. We discussed football, healthy habits for kids, Dancing with the Stars, and more.Jerry Rice is an all-time leader in most wide receiver stats. Rice was selected to the Pro Bowl 13 times (1986–1996, 1998, 2002) and named All-Pro 12 times in his 20 NFL seasons. He won three Super Bowl rings playing for the San Francisco 49ers and an AFC Championship with the Oakland Raiders. Jerry recently partnered up with Lysol products to be a Healthy Habits Coach. Lysol presented me to opportunity to do the Jerry Rice Interview and I was excited to talk to him!

Jerry Rice Interview

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Every parent is worried about their child becoming ill. Can you share some of your healthy habits, tips and advice on nutrition, exercise and hygiene that will help our kids stay healthy this school year and beyond?

Football Legend Jerry Rice – Ok, Lisa. I have partnered with Lysol and I am the first Healthy Habits Coach and I’m teaching kids the importance of healthy habits. And, I’m trying to set them up so they can be successful in school, in the classroom, and on the field. Some of the things I talk about is nutritional stuff. You know, just eating right, like eating fruit, eating the right foods, staying away from sugary drinks, always drinking water. Because when you drink those sugary drinks, there is a good chance for weight gain and also obesity. So, just doing things like that; it played a very important role in my childhood, my adulthood… those are still some of the things that I’m practicing right now.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – I’m so happy to hear you say that and I’m right in line with your way of thinking. Aside from being a football legend, another one of your notable achievements was taking second place in Season 2 of Dancing with the Stars.

Football Legend Jerry Rice – (Jerry Rice chuckles) Lisa, you know, you just hurt me. Second Place… that’s not good for me. That’s not good enough. To be honest with you, I think when I did Dancing with the Stars, it was an experience of a life time. And, I stepped out of my comfort zone to do something where people would criticize me, they would talk about me, but still, it was something that I wanted to do. I went out and gave it 100% and I almost won. I got beat by Drew Lachey, but we’re going to have a dance-off somewhere down the road.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – That’s awesome. You did fantastic. Are you going to follow the upcoming Season 19, and if so, what are your predictions?

Football Legend Jerry Rice – I don’t know right now, but I want to get back involved. It was so much fun. I think after I did it… because Evander Holyfield did the first one and then I did the second one, everybody thought it was cool. They’d say like “Oh my God! This guy, this professional athlete, this football player, he is doing Dancing with the Stars!” So, everybody thought it was cool after that because I think during that year the Super Bowl was in Detroit and I went to that Super Bowl and they brought back all the MVP’s from every Super Bowl. And, when I walked in, the majority of those guys, they were talking to me about Dancing with the Stars. It was not football, they were talking about Dancing with the Stars! It was so funny. But, I thought it was pretty cool.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Yes. Absolutely. And… speaking of the Super Bowl, do you have any predictions for the Super Bowl match up this year, and who’s going home with the big win?

Football Legend Jerry Rice – Umm, I’m hoping in the NFC it’s going to be between San Francisco and Seattle Seahawks. AFC, I’m thinking probably Denver, Pittsburgh, Cinci, Baltimore could get back in it so anybody could come out of the AFC. I’m hoping (wink) the Niners can beat Seattle. But, they are going to have to earn that and right now Seattle is playing fantastic football. I know it’s the first game, but they’re looking good on defense and also offense and as a whole, the entire team. One more thing… You can go to Lysol.com/healthyhabits and get all the info. Thanks for having me. I really appreciate.

Lisa LaGrou of Oakland County Moms – Great – thank you! Hopefully we’ll see you soon on Dancing with the Stars.

ABOUT LYSOL’S HEALTHY HABITS PROGRAM
You work hard to instill healthy habits at home, but it’s important to reinforce those in the classroom. With today’s kids spending an average of 30 hours per week at school, teachers and parents need to work together to establish healthy schools by reducing the spread of germs that cause flu, colds, and other illnesses.
Lysol® has partnered with the National Education Association (NEA) and National Parent Teacher Association (PTA), with health messages from the CDC, to launch the Healthy Habits Program. Working together, we’ve developed materials to educate students on proper hand washing and other techniques to keep germs from spreading and reduce sick days. To learn more, visit www.Lysol.com.
