Rochester Play Review and Pics

Rochester Play review, pics, and video walkthrough of the nearly 11,000 square ft indoor playscape, indoor playground, and café in Downtown Rochester, Michigan on 2nd Street. Rochester Play has been open at this location since 2014. Rochester Play previously made its home at the old City of Rochester Library Building on University Dr.

We first visited Rochester Play in 2014, I’m happy to report that it looks as clean and new now as it did when it first opened. It may have even improved!

Rochester Play Review

Rochester Play features a HUGE, 2-level indoor playground / playscape with an Up North Lodge-style theme. As is the case for many indoor playgrounds, there are plenty of obstacles to climb, tunnels and tubes to explore, nets to scamper across, and slides to scurry down. The design is extremely well “thought out”.

METRO DETROIT INDOOR PLAYGROUNDS

The playscape itself forms a semi-perimeter around the building making it easy to keep an eye on your child(ren). What I enjoy the most that isn’t featured in other indoor playgrounds is the large, carpeted play area in front of the playscape that serves as a fun meeting place for kids and features separate soft-plastic climbing toys.

The best part is that the carpeted area’s outskirts are dotted with many comfortable lounge chairs and cozy bucket chairs so parents can relax and socialize close to the action without interrupting the fun (or the playscape’s sight lines).

Rochester Play’s indoor playground even includes a Toddler Play area where parents are welcome.

Other indoor activities for kids include a small arcade room (think of a mini version of Chuck E. Cheese) with an air hockey table, pop-a-shot, whack-a-mole, dance games, and various games that feature redemption tickets for prizes.

Rochester Play Review – The Café

A lot of other indoor play places serve food and drinks, but the café at Rochester Play seems to go a bit above and beyond the others. You can order 7 different types of smoothies, sip 5 different coffee & Espresso drinks, and enjoy 8 specialty coffee drinks (AND ice coffee). Of course, there’s plenty of kid-friendly beverages too.

The café at Rochester Play has all the usual kids meals options… hot dogs, pizza, mac ‘n cheese, nuggies, grilled cheese and others. In addition to those, parents (and kids) can order specialty salads, sides, wraps, sandwiches, paninis, and even freshly baked Noble Roma’s pizza. They have plenty of gluten-free options and are very considerate should you have dietary or food allergy concerns. Rochester Play has more menu options than some sports bars I’ve gone to!

Rochester Play Review – Birthday Parties

Rochester Play has 2 party rooms. Simply pick your day and pick the many party options available. You can host an Open Party at Rochester Play or a Private (Sundays only) Party which gives your group exclusive run of the entire play area. Parties are all-inclusive. Rochester Play provides the place, the food, the supplies, plus all set-up and clean-up.

There are two party rooms available. They use these rooms for birthday parties, camps, and also parents night out events where kids can enjoy a movie screening with pizza. Rochester Play hosts a legendary Monster Mash Halloween party and extremely popular New Year’s Eve for Kids party (Noon Year’s Eve). These sell out quickly, so buy tickets in advance if you’re interested.
