Sloan Museum Water’s Extreme Journey Exhibit review, pics, and info located in the Flint Cultural Center in Downtown Flint MI. Sloan Museum Water’s ExtremeJourney Exhibit is an educational, fun and interactive exhibit for kids and families. The exhibit is set up as a maze where you are a raindrop and your goal is to reach the ocean at the end of the maze. While walking through the maze, you spin the wheels, follow the arrows that you land on, and then try to stay “clean” as you weave your way through, learning many things along the way.

There are many interactive components to the Sloan Museum Water’s Extreme Journey Exhibit, including a Zip Slide that is 10 feet long that represents the raindrop turning into water and dropping into the watershed; videos playing throughout the maze that teach new ideas about how we think about water; a Recycle vs. Trash display with hands-on lifting to demonstrate how heavy trash is for the average U.S. citizen who throws out 28 pounds of garbage each week; a home model that shows where water is getting dirty or being wasted in the home and 10 things that can be changed to save water and keep it clean; a coloring station that creates a beautiful nature mosaic scene; and much more!
At the end of the Sloan Museum Water’s Extreme Journey Exhibit, there’s a couple cute interactive pieces…
A cutout photo opp where kids are “swimming with the dolphins”; a computer screen with an interactive display where kids can take a pledge to keep the water clean; a mini quiz asking how many rain drops you saw throughout the maze (there’s more than you’d think!); and another wheel that you spin where it lands on an animal and sends you back into the maze to see if you can find it.
There’s so much to learn and do in the Sloan Museum Water’s Extreme Journey Exhibit. This exhibit brings greater understanding of how we get our water. While nearly 70% of the earth is covered by water only less than 1% is available for drinking. Sloan Museum Water’s Extreme Journey Exhibit explains why this is by comparing all the types of water on Earth.
This is a timely exhibit with the current Flint water crisis. Older kids (and parents) can also appreciate the timeline display of the Flint water system starting from the late 1800’s to the current situation.
