Town Tavern Royal Oak Review – Pics, menu info, and hours info. Town Tavern is a popular Royal Oak restaurant located in the heart of the downtown on 4th Street. Town Tavern opened in 2007 and was designed with a modernized tavern theme in mind.
The interior at Town Tavern is upscale casual. It’s fine for family dining, but probably a better date night or couples night out option. The food and staff are a bit more fine dining rather than totally casual. The menu might be a bit too unique for some kids’ tastes. I did not see a kids menu anywhere, but they may have one if you ask.

The menu at Town Tavern is far from typical tavern food. Options are creative and include dishes like Lobster Mac with creamy mascarpone, broiled whitefish with apple walnut brown rice, and petite filet medallions with root vegetable gratin, garlic kale, wild mushrooms and truffle cognac demi. Town Tavern has many interesting apps for starters – lobster nachos, five spice calamari, black bean hummus, parmesan truffle fries, short rib tacos… Town Tavern also offers salads, soups, and sandwiches. They have a lunch menu and a dinner menu. The lunch menu has lower prices, and I’m guessing it’s due to lighter portions.
I dined at Town Tavern for dinner and felt the dinner portions were rather small for the price. So, I can’t imagine how much smaller they would be for the lunch time offerings. The food was so good… honestly some of the best trout I’ve had… but I couldn’t get past how strongly I felt that I wanted to eat more after I was done. Everyone in our party felt the same.
Town Tavern Royal Oak has its menu with Vegetarian and Gluten Free options designated. They also list the daily specials on their website. Town Tavern has “Happier Hour” from 4p-6p daily and has special offers on beer, wine, cocktails, and snack foods such as baja taco, shrimp cocktail, flatbread, and steak slider.
Town Tavern has great dessert options… Ray’s Ice Cream, Maple Mousse Pie, Mixed Berry Tavern Cake and more. They also serve Ice Cream Drinks, including non-alcoholic versions like their Faygo Floats.
Town Tavern also has a Weekend Brunch with still more unique and creative options such as short rib breakfast burrito, venison chili huevos rancheros, three different kinds of eggs benedict, and interesting omelette combinations. Sparkling beverages and Bloody Mary’s (three delicious variations) are also on the menu.
