Trader Joe’s vs Simply Heinz Ketchup Review

Natural ketchup reviews – Trader Joe’s Ketchup vs Simply Heinz Ketchup in a side-by-side comparison of ingredients, taste, and cost. I decided to do a side-by-side comparison of these two ketchups because we only use ketchups that have all natural ingredients now. We’ve done away from artificial ingredients, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup and anything else we can’t pronounce in the ingredients list. These two ketchups make the grade and only include the natural ingredients you’d expect to find in ketchup.

So, if both make the grade, how do they compare in price and taste?

Trader Joe’s Ketchup vs Simply Heinz Ketchup

Simply Heinz Ketchup – Simply Heinz Ketchup comes in a 31 oz. bottle and retails for $3.29 at Meijer. Simply Heinz Ketchup Ingredients include tomato concentrate from red ripe tomatoes, distilled vinegar, sugar, salt, onion powder, spice, and natural flavorings. The natural flavorings listing makes me nervous because I’d rather they just say what it is rather than hide behind that term. But, everything else appears ok.

  1. When I first tried Trader Joe’s ketchup I was very impressed with how much deeper and richer the flavor was. Doing a side by side taste test with Heinz confirmed this. However, now that I am experimenting with various barbecue sauce recipes, I am finding that Trader Joe’s ketchup is a bit too rich and “plummy” for the other ingredients in the barbecue sauce to blend well from a flavor perspective. The Trader Joe’s ketchup dominates the flavor profile, so I switched back to Heinz for use in my BBQ sauces.
