Troy Public Library expands special needs services for children thanks to generous donations. The Troy Public Library will enhance the Library’s special needs services with materials and equipment for children with reading disabilities associated with visual impairments such as albinism, dyslexia, ADHD, traveling eye, an inability to see color, and more. All of this was made possible due to generous donations from southeast Michigan businesswomen representing Meritor, Henry Ford Health Systems, GM and Inforum as well as the Friends of the Troy Public Library.
The Troy Public Library will purchase large print materials, with emphasis on novels for ages 8-12; non-fiction books on visual impairments; magnifiers to assist in reading; and kits with special reading materials and magnifiers that children can use at home.
Join the Troy Public Library for a special story time, at 11:15 am, on Saturday, January 21st, 2012 to introduce the community to this new collection. This event is aimed especially for pre-school-aged children through 2nd grades. Afterward the event, there will be a demonstration on how to download books to ereaders, and a tour of the enhanced Special Needs Collection.
